March 1st Games
2 HUGE games tonight with Memorial visiting Trinity and Merrimack visiting BG. These 2 games speak for themselves. Top 4 seeds are on the line along with the emotional rivalry angle. Both gyms will be packed. All the student bodies will be thinking up their best Jeer Cheers.
GNG - I'm going to cut your criticism off at the pass right now. If I have time after work I will fly to C-Dome. If not, then it's to the return of David Madol to Trinity. Just in case, there is the big one at Salem on Friday....... So, be easy on me, just in case.

Re: March 1st Games
any love for the D-4 playoffs? colebrook (5) vs littleton (12) pittsfield (6) vs woodsville (11) look like good match-ups and if steven heck, he's 6'5" but looks a little banged up, can control the middle wilton (9) vs profile -(eight seed) could be a close game

We've got D2 Girls Playoffs tonight- #9 Windham returns to Stone Gymnasium to take on #8 Portsmouth in a rematch of last weeks mini-shocker, when Windham took down Portsmouth 57-44 on Senior Night.

Re: March 1st Games
Well, this stinks. Long day of work and I can't even go to any game.
So, in trying to turn lemons into lemonade, here we go:
End of 1st period BG 23 Merrimack 17 McClung with 14 points for BG.
Memorial out to a 9 - 0 lead over Trinity in the 1st period.
End of the 1st period Memorial 16 Trinity 12 - Madol has around 7 to 9 points.

A Nick Wheaton 3 with 1:56 left ties up the Memorial - Trinity game at 45.
49 - 48 Trinity with 20 seconds to go and Memorial has the ball and....... I think Wal Majong stole the ball and Trinity scores to win 51 - 48.

Re: March 1st Games
Holy Pioneer, one of MY PEOPLE was relaying the last 20 seconds of the Trinity - Memorial game with Trinity up 49 - 48 and with Memorial having the ball. Here is his play by play account over the cell phone airwaves:
"Here we go Memorial with the ball coming up the court and Morgan has the ball and......
...... Wol steals the ball !! Wol steals the ball !! Wol steals the ball !!"
I almost felt like Johnny Most was back at the McHugh gym with John Havlicek's steal.
God, I love MY PEOPLE.

Re: March 1st Games
Gallant should be 1st team All State. Every time I see Gallant play he reminds me of the meals I get at Cafe Med in Portsmouth. His games and their meals are always good.

D2 Girls Tournament
One upset tonight John Stark (12) over H/B. 51-43. And despite the fact the Portsmouth (8 ) girls had already lost at home to Windham (9) I thought they'd pull that one out but they didn't . Also Hanover (10) beat (7) Kearsarge.
I went to the Milford Souhegan game. It was some what close at times and then an incredible stretch of basketball put it away in an instant. Although even with depth Milford would've struggled with Milford but that really hurt. It was 10-8 after the first and 29-15 at half. Souhegan stretched that lead to about 20 then Milford hit 3 or 4 threes trimming the lead to about 11, with about 2 or 3 minutes left in the 3rd. Milford ended up letting that lead go back up to about 17. Milford did a good job in forcing them to take jumpers, but got killed on the boards and so even though souhegan missed the first 2 or 3 they'd hit the 4th shot. But in the last minute of the 3rd and the first minute of the fourth Souhegan went on an 18-0 run (maybe more it was clearly over after this) White was pretty much a non-factor until the the huge run as she had 3 first half fouls, she then picked up her play and hit some nice jumpers and distributed well. I don't think they're unbeatable, but with that said I don't know if they'll be beaten. Final ended up being 71-31! it was so crazy how fast this game changed, (Milford would've had a tough time winning even without that huge run, but still could've kept it close as they started to hit the 3 ball)

Salem BG
I told someone that I might stop by Salem HS to watch the game Friday and they suggested that I wait and see if we face them in the playoffs because that is when you have a better shot at beating BG???? They then went on to inform me that they were head and shoulders above the field last year and didn't finish. Just figured I'd give BG some bulletin board material. I won't be at the game. I did go to the Salem - Merrimack game. I was not impressed with either team. Outside of the big kid Gallant and the kid that sunk a bunch of threes early, it was not very interesting (I'm really not a Basketball guy). Not sure how Merrimack even won that game, I didn't see anyone on that team at all. One kid kept taking all of the shots and missing, thats all I remember. It was fun watching Cannone and Lorenz team up again. I did attend the Central Catholic MA championship game last year. It was pretty good basketball. Maybe I'll go to the final game in NH for comparison. Good luck to both BG and Salem on Friday.

I hope for their sake Souhegan isn't looking past Windham- that team is legit. Kerry White is a beast inside and the Schiebel sisters are quick as a hicup. And they play with poise too. Portsmouth took a two point lead with under 2 min to play, and it didn't even phase the Jags. Great performance tonight.
