I don't know a lot about these teams, but sounds like some possible good games here.

There are some good teams in this tournament for sure. Milford goes without saying, and are the obvious favorites. Conant (reigning DIII champs), Souhegan and Lebanon are all solid teams that should give Milford a game if they match up against them. Lucky for Milford, based on the seedings - they'll only have to face ONE of those 3 teams. ChiKid must get his tires changed at Cheshire Tire. Laughing

I believe Milford lost in this tournament last yeat (ChiKid?) I'm trying to remember.

So I was right...foggy memory these days. They'll be out for revenge regardless if they meet in the final. I still can't get over the fact that Milford only has to face 1 of those three teams (which are all better than DI Keene IMO).

Updated the dates above - I assume the Eagle Tribune (who had these) had it wrong. ChiKid since you'll be going if you can verify the first game is indeed Tuesday....

Milford was beat in this tournament last year. I think it was in the semi finals. There wasn't a BLIZZARD (Not a good word with today's weather forecast) of You Tube clips posted about calls by referees. So, the Spartans must have been beaten fair and square, in some people's eyes Very Happy

2010 Cheshire Tire Holiday Festival Empty Schedule and Youtube

Post  chicagokid43 Sun Dec 26, 2010 2:57 pm

The schedule posted here seems to be different than the one posted on the Keene website. Looks like this tourney started today for the B bracket and the A bracket with Milford,Souhegan,Coe Brown,Conant,Smitchfield RI, Windham,Keene and Lebanon. So far this tourney is still a go for today and tomorrow will be decided in the AM.

As for the Youtube clips.... there is one highlight of the funniest charge call ever in my youtube from the Souhegan matchup last year. Still to this day the funniest call I have ever seen...

Breaking news via ChiKid. Mllford over Smitchfield RI by 6 pts. Mike O'Laughlin scored his 1,000th point today. Good win vs. what was a relative unknown going into the game. A Mitchel 3 provided a buffer that forced RI to foul at the end of the game.

2010 Cheshire Tire Holiday Festival Empty Semi results

Post  chicagokid43 Thu Dec 30, 2010 1:30 am

Well sorry guys I was without phone at the tourney today... Milford got Coe Brown and played impressively winning by around 30. Starters were done before the 3rd quarter ended. Hard to say who had a good game for Milford because they all played well. I know my son had 20 on a nice shooting night and I believe Mike O got 20 and Jamie was close at about 16 or 17.

Second game had Conant and Souhegan and while Conant had a small lead at halftime the Sabers came back in the second half and took control winning by the high teens. They did most of the damage in the second half without Gilligan who seemed to strain his back right before the end of the first half.

This sets up a Souhegan Valley final tomorrow at 8:30. If you cannot make it to the game tomorrow do not worry on January 4th the teams meet in Milford... buy your seats now...!

That is the one downfall to D2 and the Keene tourney. The D2 teams seem to run into each other there and then play twice in the regular season..

I am not really a stat guy but you do have to respect what Keene does for the stats at the Holiday tourney. Check out the stat page.

That is an awesome stat page for the tournament games. Gilligan had a monster game against Lebanon. That game seems to be the game of the tournament so far. I'm sure the Milford - Souhegan game will be a nice championship game tonight.

2010 Cheshire Tire Holiday Festival Empty Thing about it that stinks..

Post  chicagokid43 Thu Dec 30, 2010 8:05 pm

The think that stinks is we play again on January 4th... back to back games.. I know it is a title game but I really wonder what our coaches will be thinking... Play everyone as we have done in the first two or do we go all out with the starters... show them the new sets that we have yet to be able to use... I am real curious. Souhegan looks much tighter defensively with a few more role players this year than in years past. They get more from the bench and may be as good as any other team in the state....

2010 Cheshire Tire Holiday Festival Empty Keene sentinel

Post  chicagokid43 Fri Dec 31, 2010 3:31 pm

I will do my best but the games were late last night so it is possible that the Keene Sentinel will have something tomorrow. But here is what I saw in the title game. I may seem a little biased because I was very pleased with my sons performance.

Game started with Milford grabbing a quick 6-8 point lead but Mike O got his second foul early and was sitting before the end of one. At the end of one Milford was up 24 to 17. Jamie led all scorers with 10 after the 1st. At the end of the first on the last play Mitchell rolled an ankle and was limping going off. He did not start the second and was whining like a... I mean was in obvious pain. lol

O'Loughlin returned and quickly picked up his third. It seems as if the whistles were coming every time the ball went towards the Milford defensive end with Milford collecting 18 fouls to 7 in the first half and Mike O was limited to about 7 minutes of play in the half. However at the half Milford carried a 40 to 36 lead.

At halftime Mitchell got taped up and decided to give it a go and while he limped on defense he seemed to have bounce on offense.. Trait given to him by his father...

The second half the foul count was completely reversed with Milford going to the line for 19 freebies and Souhegan getting to the line only 6 times.
Mike O unfortunately picked up his 4th personal 3 minutes or so into the third and again would have to sit. Jamie continued to score going into the fourth with around 20 on the night in 3 quarters.Milford would hold a 11 point lead at the end of three.

So as the 4th started one would wonder when Mike O would return. With a 11 point lead would Milfords coaches hold him out til the 5 or 4 minute mark... He would return and at the 6 minute mark picked up his 5th and was done for the night. Souhegan seemed energized by this and made a run cutting the lead to 6. Mitchell seemed to decide it was time to wake up and look to create and scored 7 points over about a one minute stretch to seal the deal. Milford finished it will ball control and good spacing. No doubt having two guards with point guard handles is a big advantage with a lead in the 4th.

Way to many whistles... but a nice game overall.

2010 Cheshire Tire Holiday Festival Empty Thanks Chikid

Post  basketballtime Fri Dec 31, 2010 7:09 pm

Thanks for the results Chikid. I was talking to a saber parent today and they did mention the fouls were a little out of control in the first half. And he mentioned Holder had a monster game, so i checked out the stats from the the game thanks to your click and paste talent and i noticed Holder played 31 minutes is that because your son hurt his ankle and Mike O'laughlin fouled out? How is your depth this year after losing Mcallum? It will interesting to see who steps up to fill that spot? Here are the final stats for Mike O, Mikey M and Jamie H.

TOT-FG 3-PT REBOUNDS
Player Name FG-FGA FG-FGA FT-FTA OF DE TOT PF TP A TO BLK S MIN
13 Mike Mitchell... 6-10 2-3 3-6 1 2 3 4 17 6 2 0 0 24
24 Jamie Holder......7-11 3-4 9-13 9 5 5 4 26 2 9 2 6 31
32 Mike O'Loughlin. 2-2 1-1 1-2 0 1 1 5 6 0 6 0 0 14

I must admit i was a little surprised not to see Holder's name mentioned down below in the awards section after looking at the stats? Well no changes here Milford seems to win when they need to good luck the rest of the way.

2010 Cheshire Tire Holiday Festival Empty Definitely and a bad selection process

Post  chicagokid43 Fri Dec 31, 2010 10:00 pm

Yeah Jamie definitely logged more minutes that most games because of the injury with Mike and Mike O being in foul trouble. As for him not making all tourney or MVP I have to say I came home and on Facebook I messaged Jamie and told him that I thought they could have split the trophy in thirds. Mike O had a monster first game with 31 points and carried us to be honest. Second game was a blowout and both Mikes had 20 point games. I believe Jamie had mid teens in that one as well. Third game was strange because Jamie had a better scoring night and was key to us holding the lead in the middle quarters. Then my Mike came in and really closed the door. One thing I failed to mention in my last post was Jovi Philbrick and his defensive assignment on Gilligan in the 4th qtr. He gave Gilligan very little which was key as well.
Keene seems to only allow two players from a team to get all tourney, I was hoping they would give one of the three the MVP, the other two all tourney so they could all walk away with hardware. I thought all three deserved something and like I stated to Jamie you can argue that Jamie was MVP and you could also make the argument that Mike M was.. All three deserved a plaque in my eyes...

As for our depth? No doubt we are not as deep as we were. In D2 losing a 6'4 wing player who can rebound and also stretch the defense with good range like Scott is a major loss. I think we can put a band aid on it with Jovi's defensive pressure and quickness as well as go big at times with Desmarais and Nelson and three guards. I have not seen Portsmouth but Pembroke,Pelham and even Bedford all have things that can bother us but I really think it is ours to lose even still. The playmaking ability and the chemistry between the team and the ability to get 25 a night from any of the three is something not many teams have. I feel so bad for Scott as he lost his junior year to a broken wrist from a wet spot on the floor and and now this. Hopefully he gets healthy and still makes a roster next year and continues to build on what he has to this point. He is a good kid and will be kept close to the team and hopefully all works out and he will be celebrating with the rest of the guys in March.

All state and D2 all star team thoughts...
I worry that the all state votes and the all state D2 team will not work as the Keene tourney did. If they all stay healthy and continue to play as they are should convince the coaches that all three are deserving. I know the coaches like to spread the wealth come awards night but to me if they continue to play as they have over the last year.... it should be a no brainer.

2010 Cheshire Tire Holiday Festival Empty How do they pick?

Post  basketballtime Fri Dec 31, 2010 10:44 pm

Congrat's on Mikey we all know how hard he plays the game. I do wonder though what is the thought process in picking an MVP or POY and so on? I just looked at the first two games and compared all the stats for all three players and O'laughlin in three games in points had 31,20,6 total of 56. assists 2,4,0 total 6 boards 8,7,1 total 16 blocks 1,1,0 total 2 steals 5,4,0 total 9 his FG-FGA for all three games 21-39 FG-FGA 3 pointers 8-18 free throws 7-10. total minutes 61

Mike M points 6,20,17 total 52 assists 6,3,6 total 15 boards 1,0,0 total of 1 steals 2,2,0 total of 4 FG-FGA all thrree games 15-25 3 pointers 7=11 free throws 6-11 total minutes 71.

Jamie H points 14,13,26 total 53 assists 3,2,2 total 7 boards 9,3,5 total 17 blocks 3,2,2 total 7 steals 2,4,6 total 12 FG-FGA all three games 16-33 FG-FGA 3 pointers 4-7 free throws 17-24. total minutes 76.

Thanks for pasting that stat page Chikid i think i'm even more confused now? How do you break it all down? This is the confusing thing for me becuase is it by stats? Or by importance of the games played or what? I sure would love to know how they reward these kids is there a system does anyone know? scratch

2010 Cheshire Tire Holiday Festival Empty Addition?

Post  basketballtime Fri Dec 31, 2010 11:03 pm

Ok i just added up all the stats head to head because i thought there was no way it could get even more confusing and Holder had better stats in almost every category then both Mike O and your son? except for scoring with Mike O having 56 and Holder having 53 and Mikey lead Holder in assists 15 to 7? See why it's very confusing? Maybe this logic went hand and hand with the first half zebra's calls drunken
