BG bests Trinity in extra frames.

I left Merrimack contemplating wearing shorts and a tee shirt,glad I didn't because I still froze my butt watching a very exciting game at Derryfield park.I watched the game with T@F and it was fun,but I had to explain the rules to him. There is no clock, they are called umps, not refs, not overtime,extra innings, things of that nature. All in all a fun day for the second game of the year. Onto the game.
Pitching for Trinity was their freshman southpaw Gianputruzzi, watching him warm up I thought BG would light him up because he threw no where near as hard as the kid from West who Guertin played Monday. The lefty strikes out the first 6 batters of the game{shows what I know}. My son told me his 2 seam fastball tails away from the batter. I thought G was good in hoops, but he just might be the next great pitcher at Trinity. Very composed, real deal, will be heard from often this season. He had at least 10 strikeouts.

Pitching for BG was Ferland. Kid brought it , he went 7 strong and also had at least 10 k's. The 1 run they gave up was unearned. Couple of great fielding plays by Guertin. Man on first a kid rips a gap shot between right and center, man on first tries to score, relay from the outfield to the BG second baseman {Cody Gilcrest} who is at least 30 feet in the outfield when he takes the relay and fires a perfect strike to home plate, out at home. Bottom of the 7th, 2 outs man on 3rd for Trinity,ground ball deep short,Cuips gets to it fires high to 1st, Remi comes off the bag, then races back to the bag, out at first.

Extra innings, top of the 8th, one of my favorite players Garrett Kelly comes to the plate for the 1st time all year. Kid has a George Brett like swing, just got cleared to play after off season shoulder surgery.{he also is one of their best pitchers and he hasn't seen the mound yet}. Slams a single to right, goes to 2nd on a walk. Double steal men on 2nd and 3rd, pass ball and Kelly scores,which is saying something because there is not alot of room to the backstop at Derryfield.

Bottom 8 Pat Clapp comes on to retire the side in order via a strikeout, slow roller to 2nd that Gilcrest made a pretty play on, and Rem catching a foul ball over the fence to end the game.

Psycho had a double to left field and would have had a triple except he tripped over 2nd base.Wind was blowing in all day.Mike Kelly 2 for 2 in stolen bases this year{I have a bet that he won't get thrown out all year}. Guertin has given up 1 run in 15 innings.Big Joe McCarthy takes the mound Friday night at 7 {Holman} in his varsity debut. Two Manchester teams down ,two to go. When these kids start swinging the bats they are going to be dangerous.I now see why TOJO hired Painter to be the baseball coach. The BEST young coach in division 1

Oh yea and 2 prominent features of watching a game at Derryfield Park:

1) Bring a wind breaker. What ever the temp is at your house deduct 20 degrees in the "Feels Like" category.

2) Prepare yourself physically as D-Park is severely bathroom challenged.

I have never seen a more DISGUSTING PORTA POTTY IN MY LIFE. That is just wrong.

Like I said the porta potty probably wasn't changed since last fall.

Cuips doesn't have that F. Lee Bailey/Perry Mason aura to him so I'll take a chance in the baseball answer court.

I am sorry we didn't tell you. I would have picked up your tab. I don't want to beat a dead horse, but never underestimate our pregame or post game activities. Maybe you just don't have the smarts, no make that guts, no strike that, maybe you don't have the heart to hang with us.
