Team of Champions
I was just having my 4th cup of coffee , thinking how last Saturday's game in Durham seems like a month ago. Anyhow, Guertin has their final roster set and the first thing I thought of when I saw it was that there are alot of kids who have won state championships in other sports this year on this team.Seventeen state plaques amongst them this year alone.{so far} Nothing breeds confidence like winning. There are alot of woulda, shoulda, coulda kids out there. These kids DO IT.
Nate Chartrand, junior, has 2 football and hoops. In football cornerback {broke his arm], in hoops guard, plays Great d, can stick the three. Didn't see the court much in Durham stuck behind remi and kelly. Next year, major minutes. In baseball he plays second hits for average and power.
Nolan Cornell, junior, fullback/ defensive line. Saw this boy hit some long balls on the jv team last season, long balls.
Steve Cuipa, senior, football, and hoops. ss or 2nd base, hits for power, hits for average, can also steal a few bases.
Tim Dow,senior, football, wr. Runs like a deer, great defensive outfielder. Streak hitter.
Christian Ferlan, senior, te football. One of the captains on baseball. He will be pitching in college next year. Kid doesn't get rattled, throws strikes. GREAT senior leader.
Cody Gilcrest, senior, swimming. One of the captains on baseball. The biggest question is who is the ace, him or Ferland ? Alot of teams have 1 ace, Bg has 2. Cody also swings a mean bat.
Mike Kelly, football, hoops. Will there be anyone faster playing baseball in NH?
Joe McCarthy, junior football, hoops. You thought he had a coming out party in Durham, wait until you see him pitch. Oh yeah, make that 3 aces. 6ft 5 kid coming at you throwing peas. Just wild enough so your not to comfortable digging in. Kid hits BOMBS.
Nick Pyzocha, football, hoops. No gap shots when he is playing in the outfield. I saw him go 5 for 5 twice last year.
Kyle Remillard, football ,hoops. Firstbase. Two outs, down 1, man on second nobody I want up to bat more. A carbon copy of Cuips. Power, average, and will steal a few bags.
Then you have kids like Garrett Kelly who just plays baseball, and might be the best on the team{ 4 aces, come on}
Alan McQuarrie, junior catcher.I haven't seen the kid from Salem who many say is the best, he is the best that I have seen.
Steve Carboneau, senior outfielder who can FLY. Decieving power.
Pat Clapp, senior, 1b,p, dh.would be a 3rd starter on alot of teams. Big boy, big stick.
Tim Lunn, see Pat CLapp.
Jim Kelly,senior 2b. Kid produces.
Hope springs eternal. My prediction is 12-6. Baseball is funny with rainouts and such, and BG usually sees the other teams ace. My over under for team home runs is 25. They have alot of kids who can go yard . Like the hoop team they should be very entertaining to watch.

Re: Team of Champions
1) Your thread should've been titled "In Praise of BG Baseball" or "Glory Be to BG Baseball."
2) Thanks for giving an exhausting scouting report on the 2011 BG baseball team. Now the other D1 managers won't have to scout BG's baseball team. They can just tape your thread posting to their D1 dugout walls.
3) 4 cups of coffee by 9:00 am on a Saturday?? Once again I say my condolences to Mrs GNG's auditory canals.

I am trying to pump some life into the baseball section
You have to remember T@F it has been a LONG time since the BG baseball faithful have had something to get excited about. The last baseball coach was hired by the current Merrimack ad, this coach was hired by TOJO.

Nice Post GNG
Thanks for giving me a solid BG breakdown. I love baseball, though much more in May than April. I should be able to add some observations through out the season. Much like the weather I will offer more, the warmer it gets. It is tough to sit at a stadium that has no weather protection. Does BG still play at Holman? Does anyone else too?
I would appreciate it if you,TF, or Tully could give me a history lesson on BG baseball. Best player all-time, highest level of college or minor league play, year they played, any state champs, etc...Did the program go down hill after Bill Dodd left? Maybe the greatest baseball mind in this state.
I have a little more knowledge on South.
As always in DII be careful of Souhegan and Lebanon.

JAF knows the BG history
I just know the past 3 year history, and it isn't pretty. Mr.Cuipa and myself introduced ourselves freshmen year to Coach Dodd during a freshmen hoop scrimmage. We sat in his office for at least an hour talking sports. One of those guys who you just love listening to. All 3 Nashua schools play at Holman, and you are right it can get pretty chilly.

Lebanon is one...
of those towns that has a baseball academy. They don't typically have down years, they just reload. It helps a lot when you have a former major league pitcher helping out with a HS team and pitching staff.
That is one reason why I respect Lebanon basketball, many of those kids on that team, basketball is their third sport. Football and baseball are the biggies. Town wide as well.

ChiKid - My post meant I was pumping the life into baseball talk. As usual you are looking for the erratic sides of things.
I used to talk to Bill Dodd about baseball a long time ago. I always felt like I was talking to Earl Weaver, Sparky Anderson etc. He knew so much about baseball and could talk non stop and educated about it for a long time. He is a great baseball mind and man.

I love when people
I love when people talk about great minds playing sports. I almost laugh when I hear it as I think sports are much more simple than we sometimes think. lol

Re: Team of Champions
Minor correction GNG - South plays at South - that's how BJ (head coach) likes it! Only BG and North play at Holman. I don't have that much history on BG baseball - I'd like to forget the last 4 years. My older son loved the sport, played on championship AAU teams, but his love of the sport was drained by what happened. In every dark cloud there is a silver lining as my middle son was able to pitch varsity and get starts as a sophomore. Now as a senior he is really looking forward to this season with Coach Painter and then next year as a Mule at Muhlenberg College. Between he and Cody - there's two kids who are on their 3rd year of starting. My concern is the other side - because last year lineup was pretty much all Seniors - most of the players haven't seen Varsity pitching. I know the kids can hit, but the first time one of them steps in against Nick Poore or Kyle Turner could be a challenge. I think contenders this year will be Salem, North, Londonderry, and as always Keene. It is still all about pitching and pitching depth. There are good pitchers on other school and depending on whether BG sees them will let you know whether the other teams respect BG. I think it'll be a very interesting year - high hopes for sure. I'd love to be sitting in the stands at Fisher Cat stadium watching BG in another championship game this year, but a *lot* of good fortune and hard play.
Bill Dodd was far before my time as a parent, although I do remember him being there for quite a while. I agree about him being great to talk with - he spoke at an umpire dinner I was at this winter - let's just say he can spin a yarn or two. He also comes with the smallest lineup cards - imagine receiving a 2x3 piece of paper in about a 4 point font with all the starters, reserves, and coaches.
