Kristy Zurmuhlen - Stanford University

Post  8992 on Fri Aug 20, 2010 3:24 pm

Kristy Zurmuhlen, who set the standard for soccer at soccer-crazy Fall Mountain Regional, gets to kick off her junior season at Stanford close to home.

The Cardinal, ranked No. 2 in the NCAA Division I preseason poll, are in Boston for a pair of games this weekend.

Tonight, before a contingent from the Fall Mountain area, Zurmuhlen and Stanford take on No. 7 Boston College at Chestnut Hill. Sunday, Stanford faces Boston University.

Zurmuhlen, who played in only 11 games her first two seasons, had a strong spring and figures to be in the mix for playing time at midfield.

Zurmuhlen, who scored her only college goal two years ago against Arizona State, holds the Fall Mountain scoring record — for girls and boys — with 84 goals and 73 assists en route to high school All-America honors.

Stanford has eight starters back from a team that went 25-1 and lost 1-0 in the final to North Carolina last year.
