Trinity at South: Can the resurgent Panthers upend the Pioneers?

Timby at Pinkerton: Astros are on a little roll. Bosco - I yield to you:

What was the date and the last game Timberlane boys won a regular season game?

Spaulding at Alvirne: A game between 2 teams that seem to be cut from the same basketball cloth.

BG at Keene: The Blackbirds haven't been scoring a lot of points lately.

Concord at Londonderry: Home opener for the Lovable Lancers  cheers cheers cheers

Dover at Memorial: Believe it or not, this is a pick em game because you never know what's happening at 1 Crusader Way  Wink Wink

According to the NHIAA site, Timberlane beat Merrimack.  Is this correct?

Two decent games for your D1 measuring sticks this evening, one 30 gallon waste of gas, two confidence booster's and a who's gonna show up for memorial to play game....It's the middle of January ( BLAAAAAAH). Take in a local high school game Tonight........................................

Trinity vs. Nashua South : South impressive to this point and I don't think a loss here takes that away, They will give Trinity all they got at home and have alot of energy/effort but it's not enough, Trinity's a pretty "Complete" team at all 5 positions with a good bench and should wear out any of South's dream's of an upset! Unless Trinity is dreaming of Sunday a little early and take South lightly.................................................I don't see it !!!! But I'm rooting for 'em.............................................TRINITY W.

Timberlane vs. Pinkerton: Pinky starting to get it a bit, feasting on the bottom a little bit but still Confidence building games, Timby, they got two shot's in my opinion two Win this Season, Dover which beat them over the holiday's and Keene, a very bad team that cannot score the ball. Hope they can win more but unlikely!!......PINKY W.

Spaulding vs. Alvirne: Cronin doing all he can with this group but 30 point's the other night at home against an offense first Londonderry Team. Alvirne playing hard and well and need this game to keep that confidence up and going and are at home, they need to show they can win these games....................................................ALVIRNE W.

BG vs KEENE : Mig's's bench gets a lot of quality minutes, just what Mig's want's..............The Blackbird's have flown South this winter..................BG W.

Concord vs. Londonderry: The D1 darling's to this point get there first home game of season after Impressively taking care of business to jump out to 4-0, Home crowd loves'em and boost's their Confidence even higher, they keep that peaceful, easy feeling going for the faithful against an improved but overmatched opponent..LONDONDERRY W.

Dover vs. Memorial : Kabunga? Kabongo? Kaboom? I don't know! Is he showing up for game? does he have a ride? Dover soul searching, Romp's praying for a miracle and getting therapy from Alex Burt. The only way Dover win's is if Quirk has to suit up........................................................................................................MEMORIAL W.

See you on the Hardwood !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The last win for Timby was a 10 point win in OT over Concord on January 29, 2010. It was actually the final answer on Jeopardy a few nights ago. The NHIAA site is wrong, as the Merrimack-North score was placed in the slot for the Timberlane game that was rescheduled.

Interesting you should bring this up, 3B. I heard Kabongo sauntered into the Memorial gym last Friday near the end of the 1st quarter with their game against Alvirne.

Site for tonight's Trinity/South boys basketball game is incorrect on the NHIAA site. Game is at Trinity. (6:30).

Jan. 14th Games Empty Predictions

Post  CAF1 Tue Jan 14, 2014 5:32 pm

Trinity and Nashua South- I have trinity winning this one big Nashua has not impressed me where as we all know Trinity is easy top two team in D1. Trinity W

Pinkerton and Timby- Pinky wins this one I think there finally figuring it all out and starting to see some things from them. Yes they have played Keene and Dover and tonight Timby so haven't proved much to me other than win over Winny. Pinkerton gets the W

Spaulding and Alvirve- Most interesting game for me tonight only because they are two evenly matched teams n my opionion. Both have losts of role players with one maybe two kids that can truly play. Alvirne gets the Win tonight.

BG and Keene- BG wins in a blowout Keene cant score the ball even though they do play hard they just cant compare

Concord and Londonderry- First home game for the Lancers and coming in 4-0 (all on the road)
they are starting to prove something? I think the momentum will lead the into a win tonight because concord doesn't have the talent or depth to match up.

Dover and Memorial- Okay either this is going to be a blowout for Memorial. Or this is going to be a close one and maybe a win for Dover. Trevon and Kabongo step up to the plate tonight its all over but if they start to argue and play as one it will stay close. and dover is a team if you let them hang around who knows what will happen , ths one is interesting to me.

Lets see what happens tonight in Nh D1 High School Ball tonight!!

Boys Final: Pinkerton 68 Timberlane 41

The above score was actually the good news for Timberlane basketball because in girl's action:

This is a final score and it's not a misprint and GNG did not treat me to a bunch of drinks (His wallet needs the Jaws of Life to open sometimes):

Pinkerton 61 Timberlane 3

Please don't be so quick to judge or comment on the Memorial players/students. Take a look at the situation and who's running the show. Perhaps this is why talent takes off to prep school.

Londonderry loses to concord by 1. Lancers aren't playing like they did the beginning of the year. Their fast pace offense has slowed down and their not playing as a team.

IIMB

Quick to judge? I think there's been a pretty healthy sampling of players at Memorial over the last 3 years who have been suspended, who were disrespectful and who didn't toe the line and got into trouble, not only with the present coach, but with the coach before the present one. The coach from 3 years ago has 3 State Ships under his belt. There is a reason why he left to coach at Bedford. The present coach is running into the same problems the now present Bedford coach did. There is no self discipline with some of the Memorial players. You probably know why one of their starters won't play this season. Was the head coach the reason why that player isn't and probably won't be playing.... A tall skinny 6'4 senior. That player brought it upon himself.

Players need to be accountable for their actions and stop being excuse machines.

Oh and BTW- There were a lot of Memorial players in the Manchester Boys club spring league. Roughly half of them didn't even make it past the 2nd week of the season because of disrespectful behavior. They were removed from the league.

I think the only one steering the ship in that league were the players themselves. No HS coaches.

Just saying.

Believe me, I've had constructive criticism of Coach Quirk and the way he's handled some situations at Memorial, but let's take a look at this edition of the Crusaders and what the players have done on their own accord:

Starting point guard: Academic suspension to this point of the season. Might come back.

Starting 6'4 forward: Off the team for reasons that's not appropriate to be posted on this site.

Starting forward and best player: Walks into the gym at the end of the 1st quarter last Friday against Alvirne.

So, what did Coach Quirk have to do with these happenings. I believe the players were the ones who are at fault here. Wait until these players go out into the REAL world and see what happens when they don't toe the line. I believe it'll be a rude awakening.

Pinkerton-Timby was 33-32 with two minutes left in the third before Pinky went on a 3 point barrage. Timby did some really good things. They are coming around.

Londonderry lost their mojo since Friday night when they went on the road and beat Spaulding? Wow that was quick.

I agree players should be held accountable. Its not ultimately about basketball but life. How are these kids going to function outside of basketball? So what do you think the answer is here? I certainly know it's not a 60+ year old man that can't even begin to relate to these kids. I'm not on board with throwing in the towel and slapping a label across the boys basketball program at Memorial.

Let's give Concord a little credit here.  They played Trinity tough in Concord and got a big win on the road in handing  a team with a lot of momentum their first loss. And a 1 point loss isn't exactly falling off a cliff for Londonderry, so let's not get carried away. Concord has had a few down years, but it sounds like this team in going to bring everything they've got each and every night.  Good things eventually happen for teams who play like that...

Was extremly impressed with Concord tonight. They played hard throughout the game. Shot the ball well and rebounded and hustled. They will win more then they lose this year. Londonderry could never crack it open beyond a 7 or 8 lead after the 1st quarter. They had a few too many turnovers for my liking. They will bounce back.

T&F - Want your opinion on when a ref should blow the whistle for an injured player. In the Concord vs. Londonderry game tonight we had two instances of a player being down after rebounding action. In the first it was a Concord player and the trailing ref blew the whistle immediately , thereby stopping a Londonderry man advantage breakout. In the second it was a Londonderry player and the trailing ref ( the other ref from the 1st instance) let play carry on for at least 20 seconds. Play was utlimately stopped by a Londonderry defensive foul. There is no way he did not see the Londonderry player as he was standing no more than 5 feet from him.The resulting free throws gave Concord a 1 point lead with about a minute and change to go. I am not saying this is why Londonderry lost. Too many turnovers was the culprit in my opinion. Just want to understand the rule of thumb for the refs on this one.

This is a tough one Edge because without seeing the exact plays it would be tough for me to comment on it. Seeing your description of the plays and actually being on the court to make decisions are worlds apart. If I was there and actually saw the plays I could comment.

I will say this concerning players down on the court and stoppage or continuation of plays. The number one job of officials is to ensure the safety of a player on the court and the players around him/her. A player down on a court can be a threat to those moving around on the court also if someone trips over the downed player. When comparing preventing a basket to preventing a broken ankle or a concussion, I think the prevention of a health problem will always win out in the decision making process.

To add a nickel to T&F's comment about "when" to stop action - each official probably has a threshold of what would cause them to stop action, but safety is definitely #1 followed closely by do I see a bone sticking out, blood gushing, an unconscious player, etc - something really severe. That's an immediate whistle. Any coach, parent, player, etc. that complains looks like dolt when the ambulance arrives. Definitely blood on the floor is a stoppage for cleanup regardless of where the action is and you need to find the bloody player...

Just because there's an advantage breakout doesn't mean there's a direct scoring play about to happen. On a 90' court if the "breakout" hasn't reached halfcourt and the down player is in the midst of rebounding action, writhing in pain - I can see cause for a quick stoppage... The "next pass" could be stolen back and now you have action coming at you with a player down in the paint - not a good scenario. In your second instance you noted the player was "standing no more than 5 feet" from the official - is that really a downed player? If the other team was moving the ball away from the basket and the player is on the floor or in obvious pain and you spot it, then I think one is more likely to stop action. There's 10 bodies on the court moving fairly fast - depending on where 1 of those players is standing within the peripheral vision and how the game has played out could cause the official to not blow the whistle quickly. Officials do recognize teams that keep a player up high defensively for a rebound and quick down court pass... So it's possible to have one assume that the player that's hanging back a bit along your periphery is waiting for such a pass. I'm not saying that's what happened, but do consider the official has to make a decision and given that you note the player was standing - I could certainly see cause for not blowing the whistle too quickly.
