NHS Downs Bridgton, 81-69
The New Hampton School men's basketball team defeated the Bridgton Academy Wolverines, 81-69, Thursday night at Smith Gymnasium
Postgraduate Thomas Bropleh (Denver, CO) led four Huskies in double figures with 22 points. He scored 10 straight points for the Huskies in the first half.
During the final seconds of the first half Michigan-bound forward Evan Smotrycz (Reading, MA) found Drexel commit Dartaye Ruffin (Stoughton, MA) at the rim to give NHS a three-point advantage, 33-30, after 20 minutes of play. Ruffin finished with 15 points.
Bropleh connected on three thee-pointers. Boston College-bound guard Brady Heslip (Burlington, ON), who battled foul trouble for most of the game, joined Bropleh with three 3-pointers. The postgraduate point guard finished with 11 points. Jordan Laguerre (Manchester, NH) was the fourth Husky to reach double figures, tossing in 10 points.
New Hampton (2-0) received timely contributions from Carter Trent (Little Rock, AR) and Stevie Topercer (Phoenix, AZ). A junior, Topercer is the younger brother of current NAVY forward, TJ ’05 and current Bentley freshmen Mike '09. Eleven Huskies played in the game. New Hampton travels to Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, CT on Saturday to play in the National Prep School Showcase. The team will play NIA Prep (NJ) at 4 pm on Saturday and Kiski School (PA) at 5 pm on Sunday.
