Quite a Week for Green

NH's Mr. Basketball & Gatorade Player of the Year Commits to Post-Grad Year, then Wins Title

These last couple of weeks have been quite eventful for Bishop Guertin’s Connor Green. In the span of seven day the 6’4” swingman has won a state championship, a slew of individual awards, and also committed to a school for next year. Not a bad week at all.

Green is one of the NHIAA’s top prospects. He has received his share of interest from college coaches, but will now have an extra year to decide which one he will play for. Instead the Bedford, NH native has decided to do a post-grad year next season at Phillips Exeter Academy. It is hard to go wrong when attending one of the best academic prep schools in the country. Green will also be able to play against some top competition in the NEPSAC. He is now a very intriguing prospect for the Class of 2012.

Last Saturday Green helped lead BG to its first NHIAA Division I (Class L) state title since 1983. He scored 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in a 54-46 win for the Cardinals over Trinity on the championship game. Green did much of his damage in the paint in that game, despite going up against a Trinity frontline that went 6’10”, 6’7” and 6’7”. Green was also able to finish in transition and knock down clutch free throws down the stretch.

Green was also named the Gatorade Player of the Year for New Hampshire as well. Considering all of the prep school talent in the state, it is very impressive for an NHIAA player to win the award. Then last Sunday at the Granite Games event put on by the NHBCO (New Hampshire Basketball Coaches Association) the NHBCO announced their year-end award winners. Green made first team all-state in Division I, and also took home the 2011 NH Mr. Basketball award. This award, like the Gatorade Player of the Year, takes academics and community service into account in addition to on court performance.

At the Granite Games event, Green put his Bishop Guertin uniform on for one last time while suiting up for the Division I all-state team as they competed against the NHIAA’s Division II all-state team. Green dropped 27 points on the game, including 5 three-pointers to help lead the D-I team to a 133-
