Congratulations to Connor Green for being named Gatorade Player of the Year for New Hampshire. This is a big accomplishment for an NHIAA player, as the award is usually won by a NH prep school player. It is pretty impressive that Green won this award over the likes of Naadir Tharpe (Brewster - Kansas), Marcus Kennedy (Brewster - Villanova), Jakarr Simpson (Bewster - St. John's), Jordan Laguerre (New Hampton - Umass), and players like Nerlen Noels (#3 ranked player nationally in the Sophomore class) and George Niang of Tilton.

Here is the press release:

BISHOP GUERTIN HIGH SCHOOL STANDOUT NAMED GATORADE® NEW HAMPSHIRE BOYS BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR
CHICAGO (March 17, 2011) — In its 26th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, The Gatorade Company, in collaboration with ESPN RISE, today announced Connor Green of Bishop Guertin High School as its 2010-11 Gatorade New Hampshire Boys Basketball Player of the Year. Green is the first Gatorade New Hampshire Boys Basketball Player of the Year to be chosen from Bishop Guertin High School.
The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court, distinguishes Green as New Hampshire’s best high school boys basketball player. Now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year award to be announced in March, Green joins an elite alumni association of past state boys basketball award winners, including Dwight Howard (2003-04, SW Atlanta Christian Academy, Ga.), Chauncey Billups (1993-94 & 1994-95, George Washington HS, Colo.), Jason Kidd (1991-92, St. Joseph Notre Dame HS, Calif.), Paul Pierce (1994-95, Inglewood HS, Calif.) and Chris Bosh (2001-02, Lincoln HS, Texas).
The 6-foot-4, 230-pound senior forward has led the Cardinals to a 19-2 record and a berth in the Division I state final against Trinity High, scheduled for March 19. Green is averaging 20.6 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 77 percent from the free throw line. A 2011 New Hampshire Mr. Basketball finalist, he has recorded a double-double in 20 of Bishop Guertin’s 21 games this season.
Green has maintained a 3.30 GPA in the classroom. He has volunteered locally as a peer tutor and on behalf of multiple community service initiatives in association with his church youth group.
“Connor Green has developed into a complete player,” said Bishop Guertin High Head Coach Jim Migneault. “Each game he is just as focused on grabbing rebounds as he is about scoring points. He has matured so much as a player this season.”
Green intends to complete a year of post-graduate study, beginning this fall.
The Gatorade Player of the Year program annually recognizes one winner in the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states that sanction high school football, girls volleyball, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, baseball, softball, and boys and girls track & field, and awards one National Player of the Year in each sport. The selection process is administered by ESPN RISE and the Gatorade high school sports leadership team, which work with top sport-specific experts and a media advisory board of accomplished, veteran prep sports journalists to determine the state winners in each sport.
Green joins recent Gatorade New Hampshire Boys Basketball Players of the Year Melvin Ejim (2009-10, Brewster), Alex Oriakhi (2008-09, Tilton), and Emmanuel Negedu (2007-08, Brewster), among the state’s list of former award winners.

Nice award. The transformation from offensive player to complete player was a fun thing to watch. He learned quite abit from Scott ST Lawrence last season on how to play both ends of the floor.
