D1 Playoff Prediction Empty D1 Playoff Prediction

Post  NHFootballGuy Thu Oct 24, 2013 12:14 pm

Love the new format. I have to say the playoffs should be better than ever.
I think BG over South the 2nd time around
Exeter over Spaulding, Beating coach Ball twice doesn't happen.
Concord over Bedford, Concord the best team in the state by far.
Pinkerton over Londonderry, Not much to say about this matchup.

Concord over BG in the finals. Concord just can't be stopped this year. Great team with no holes.

I'll agree with you on Exeter and Pinkerton winning their respective conference games, should it pan out this way. I was at the South-BG game, and I think South put together its first full game..meanwhile BG has been pretty atrocious on defense two weeks in a row, but they end the year with two relatively easy games, start getting guys back into good health, and I think they make it a much better game the second time around. That being said, I still take South in the playoffs. Concord has the skill players, but I think their line is a weak point. Their success will depend on whether or not Coach Hines and the Bedford team can make the adjustments necessary to exploit that. Concord wins, but in a nail-biter.

Seasons not over - one of BG, south, or Keene will miss out if Keene wins this weekend... Can the Dover vs winni game change placement in that division??

Keene over South, North over BG. That certainly changes things in the West conference!

If Keene loses to Alvirne and BG beats Timberlane, I believe BG would get in because they beat Keene
earlier this year. But that is a long shot....

Anyone care to post their predictions? We could do a pool, but there may only be 1 or 2 entries given the lack of involvement this year. I'd say this year was far more exciting that past years where the talk was generally whether BG could beat a D1 powerhouse...

Anyway,

South over Keene - but it will be very close... I think Stellos is Keene's kryptonite...
Pinkerton over Londonderry - no brainer
Exeter over Spaulding - This really is a tossup
Central shocks Concord in OT - have to make one radical pick :-) maybe that'll get other people's juices flowing!

Reseeded :
South 15.5556
Pinkerton 12.6667
Central 12.6667
Exeter 10.8889

FYI:
Spaulding 10.6667
Concord 18.000
Londonderry 6.2222
Keene 13.5556

In the we're better than Londonderry category:
Bedford 12.6667
BG 11.7778
Winni 8.4444

Semis: (home team prevails)
South over Exeter
Pinkerton over Central (Wade vs. Latimore - a must see matchup)

South champs

JAF. . . I'd love to get in on this. . .

Pinkerton over Londonderry- This will be a very lopsided game especially since I heard that Fairweather for Londonderry is still hurt and will not be playing

Concord over Central- I agree with JAF that this will be a very tight game, but I don't think Central's front 7 will be enough to pressure Concord's backfield

Spaulding over Exeter- This seacoast battle should be a good one. . . Exeter is down this year and Spaulding is playing with confidence. I think we are going to see the home team take this one.

Keene over South- I was plugging for Keene earlier this year and I said they were going to be a difference maker down the stretch. I am going to stick with that prediction.

Reseeded-
Concord
Keene
Pinkerton
Spaulding

Pinkerton over Keene- We keep talking about Latimore, but the Astros strength is their front 7. They have a spectacular O and D line and a quarterback that makes very little mistakes. In high school football that is what it takes the win. I think they will be able to neutralize the strength of the Blackbirds (I believe that the winner of this game will be the Division 1 state champs)

Concord over Spaulding- Concord is too skilled and talented. Spaulding is a solid team, but I think they will struggling with the multiple dimensions of the Tide.

Pinkerton over Concord- A rematch in a game that Concord snuck out of with a W. This time Pinkerton does not allow a 40 yard TD pass with 1:20 on the clock to let Concord back in the game. Pinkerton 21- Concord 13

D1 Playoff Prediction Empty Division 1 Playoffs

Nobody beats Concord - too much speed and sold lines on both sides of the ball.

Oh by the way  Concord easily beats Central by 21 points and Pinkerton if they make it that far
has no chance.  Remember the Pinkerton-Concord game was played in Pinkerton.  Not that way
this time around.

Keene over South 35-14: Keene is too tough for South
Exeter over Spaulding 21-14: Coach Ball gets the win in round 2
Pinkerton over Londonderry A lot to a little: Not much to say, easy pick here
Concord over Central 42-20: Don't see it being close

Pinkerton over Keene
Concord over Exeter

South over Keene 35-21
Pinkerton over Londonderry 42-14
Exeter over Spaulding 28-21

The Central-Concord game goes one of two ways, as I see it. Either Concord blows Central out of the water early, or they make mistakes and the game's close going into the 4th quarter. If that happens, I pick Central to win this game.

The above scores were predictions. Keene, Pinkerton, Concord and Exeter were the winners in D1. Next week Keene hosts Pinkerton, and Concord hosts Exeter.

In D2, Sanborn upset undefeated Monadnock, Portsmouth narrowly over Merrimack Valley, Plymouth over Kennett, and Trinity trounced Windham. Next week Portsmouth hosts Trinity, and Plymouth hosts Sanborn.

Results of informal contest

NHFootballGuy => 4 fo' 4 (it's a basketball reference for the young guns to look up :-))
NH12345 => 3 for 4
Goodguy => 3 for 4 (wish you had made your second round choices before last night :-))
EIR => 2 for 4
JAF => 2 for 4
sjprague => 2 for 4 (of course picking all the teams would have been better)

Games this weekend should be very entertaining. I think the Pinkerton/Keene game may not go as anyone thinks... Latimore is good, but me thinks that Pink is going to have their hands full with Keene's offense, while Keene might be able to "slow down" Pinkerton's...

Sorry about only picking the first round in my post a few days ago. I thought we were picking the first round then after that was done we would pick the next round. Should be alot of great football being played next weekend. Good luck to all of the teams, Coaches and kids. I actually like this new Division 1 realignment. When the Champ is crowned in a few weeks nobody will have any gripes about who could beat who on what field and when. You will have a true Div. 1 champ.

The 3 remaining contenda's were each 2 for 2 this weekend.

Depending on GoodGuy's final selection and results of next weekend could be the difference between a 3 way tie for best prognosticator or an outright win for NHFootballGuy.

Should be a classic matchup in Concord - hopefully whatever momentum they've built into the program can carry over for years to keep things interesting.

I predict a team wearing red will win Very Happy

Congrats to Concord in their win and undefeated season... Impressive showing in the final game. Speed wins again!

NHFootballGuy correctly predicted the outcome of each playoff game - impressive. If this were Vegas you'd have some cash to go with that... Since it's only the NH Sports Forum - you get bragging rights!

Considering the reported long line to get into the game (and > 5000 fans) - one perhaps understands why St. Anselm's backed out of being a host site. Obviously playing yesterday at UNH wouldn't have worked either. While UNH is an viable alternative going forward - each year the NHIAA could run into scheduling issues. Much the same as they get for Fisher Cat Stadium and baseball playoffs. As much as it's a media hassle for 3 games and 3 sites - I don't think changing the final site should be a priority. Would it be fair to the Keene's, Plymouth's, etc of the State to travel to UNH to play a Secoast or Southern tier team? It's not like those teams would get a week of practice on that turf either...
