I agree.
T@F - Think about what your doing. You are gonna deny a forum member a chance to have lunch with me at THE PITTS.
This could be a life altering expierance for CASUALFAN.
I believe the no access to a computer excuse should be allowed.
ANYBODY have SOUTH, TRINITY,AND DOVER all losing yesterday.

Re: 2nd Annual D1 Boy's Final Standings Contest
For anybody interested here is how the Formula from an earlier thread in the season presently ranks D1
I used the following:
Record Ranking+ (DPPG rank X2) + (OPPG rank X3)= Overall score
I left out the leading scorers ranking as 20 is not enough and I was not going to figure out the top 50 (my wife already thinks I am crazy as it is). Low score is good:
1) Central 12
2) Trinity 12 (tied overall but I'm giving Central the nod based on better record)
3) Spaulding 24
4)South 36
5) Dover 36 (I would think they would be better than 6-5 but numbers never lie)
6) BG 39 (tied for 5th best record, #1 in OPPG, 17 in DPPG)
7) Merrimack 41
Memorial 45
9) Winny 50
10) Bedford 55
11) Alvirne 63
12) Exeter 66
13) Keene 75
14) Londonderry 75
15) Salem 78
16)Pinkerton 82
17) North 92
18) West 103
19) Concord 106
20) Timby 118

Dover is screwing me.
What's up with Dover ?
Losses to Keene and Winnie this week.
I had them beating both those squads.

Re: 2nd Annual D1 Boy's Final Standings Contest
...then Central struggles a bit last night but comes out with a win, Spaulding only beats Bedford by 6..... should be an interesting ending to 2013 season games. by the way, don't let T&F give you any grief..... very nice Gary Fitz article on Lunn.

Winnie was better than their 5-6 record going into the game would indicate. 5 game stretch against Bedford, Spaulding, BG, Merrimack, and rival Exeter. I haven't seen Dover play like they did last night, not getting to lose balls, getting beat on the glass, etc. Winny's good and Dover is capable of playing much better than they did last night.

Statistical anomaly. Numbers only indicate what should happen, not what will happen. Especially in sports which involve a human element that can not be measured by numbers.

Re: 2nd Annual D1 Boy's Final Standings Contest
With one game remaining in the D-1 regular season, here is how the contest is shaping up.
Based on GNGs original scoring system (most teams picked correctly in their exact place in the standings), here is the current tally:
crossover - 12 (has the lowest 8 teams in exact order)
goldenbear - 10
T&F - 9
GNG - 8
mcisaac - 8
sjsprague - 8
The Edge - 7
deafpanther - 7
casualfan - 7
martineau - 6
ebless - 6
dj5hoop - 5
boscod39 - 5
newtothismom - 5
nhbasketball - 4
seacoastdad - 3 (ouch!)
Most correct placements: West at #19 (15); Timberlane at #20 (15); Exeter at #11 (13); Trinity at #1 (12)
Least correct placements: Winnacunnet at #10 (0); Dover at #12 (0)
After the final games on Friday, I will update the standings, plus look at the scoring system in a slightly different way.
What does last place win? TWO lunches with GNG?

Re: 2nd Annual D1 Boy's Final Standings Contest
T@F - Remember it's final standings. Not 17 games. You will be in your proper spot BEHIND me in this little mental excercise.
I have the top 2 and bottom 2 picks locked up.
seacoast dad- I expected more out of you. Much more.
If South and Memorial win, I nail down the top 4.
I will be like this after friday's games , and T@F WILL BE LIKE THIS.

Re: 2nd Annual D1 Boy's Final Standings Contest
Here are the final results of the contest, first with the original scoring system, and a second way of looking at it.
Most correct teams placed in the exact final spot in the standings:
crossover - 13
goldenbear - 9
T&F - 8
ebless - 7
GNG - 7
mcisaac - 7
sjsprague - 7
casualfan - 6
deafpanther - 6
The Edge - 6
dj5hoop - 5
martineau - 5
newtothismom - 5
boscod39 - 4
nhbasketball - 4
seacoastdad - 3
Here's another way of scoring, which is kind of an overall view of your final rankings. Your score represents the total distance you were away from having a perfect ranking. For example, if you picked Trinity to finish #1, and they did finish #1, you would get a score of -0- for that team. If you picked Bedford to finish #10, and they finished #8, you would get a score of 2 (i.e the absolute value of 10-8 ). Likewise, if you picked Bedford to finish #5, and they finished #8, you would get a score of 3 (i.e the absolute value of 5-8 ). Lowest overall score wins. I didn't look at the tiebreaker, since it was a total domination by Crossover using either system. As you can see, I did this solely to convince myself that I wasn't a total loser!

dj5hoop - 24

Re: 2nd Annual D1 Boy's Final Standings Contest
Congrats to Crossover for winning the Final Standings Contest !!! I believe GNG said the winner will be treated to lunch at the Auburn Pitts on Saturday March 9th.
Now, I know The Edge and SeacoastDad have all these math formulas that really get to the numbers heart of the matter and in some way saves the HS basketball world , but the one math resolution of this contest that means the most to me is the following:
T&F - 8
GNG - 7
And of course:
T&F - 24
GNG - 26
In both the MORE THAN and LESS THAN math categories GNG is firmly below T & F on the contest ladder looking at the soles of my sneakers. In the end, this is the only math formula I get a real kick out of
While not required, as in a political loss, I believe GNG said he would wait for all the results to be official before he makes a Forum concession speach to me.
