Feb. 24th Games
Memorial at Exeter: This is a pick em game and a tough one for Memorial because of the tough stretch of games they have this week. Losing to Londonderry didn't help them last night. Their victory over Central last weekend now seems a long time ago.
Dover at Alvirne: If this was last year we'd be saying Alvirne gets this one to stay on a roll and build momentum for the playoffs. That was last year. Right now the Broncos are scratching and clawing to host a prelim this year.
Keene at Salem: I know those 2 mothers are insulated and isolated out in Blackbird country. FYI to them. 101 and 93 will have a lot of rush hour and start of school vacation traffic, so leave early to get to Salem High tonight.
Spaulding at Trinity: Great matchup at the McHugh Gym. I give Trinity a very slight edge because they are at home. With the start of vacation week it will be interesting to see if the Trinity student body shows up with their usual numbers. Spaulding must shoot the ball well from the outside tonight if they want to get the W.
North at Central: An intense affair for sure at the Simon Gym. It will be interesting to see how the Central backcourt handles the North backcourt, which is the hands down best backcourt in D1 right now. Artiga must have a big game in the paint for Central to win. Central will not get many good looks from the outside. Junior Brown has to be a factor also for the Little Green tonight.
On the girls side:
Londonderry at Pinkerton: If Pinkerton loses Memorial gets the #4 seed. If Pinkerton pulls off the upset over the Lady Lancers then they have to hope Exeter upsets Memorial so they can get the #4 seed.
Exeter at Memorial: Amra Elezovic needs 4 points to get 1000 points. Memorial has to win to capture the #4 seed.
For anybody who has resided under a rock lately, Londonderry boys defeated Memorial last night 57 to 55. They are currently one of the hotest teams in D1 right now owning a 3 game winning streak and are in sole possession of 17th place

Concord 31 BG 19 Halftime. WOW.
Home listening to Justin. He does such a great job describing the game and the setting.
Trinity 28 Spaulding 19 Halftime.
BG tied it up 5 minutes left in 3rd. Would have loved to have been a fly on the wall at halftime.
BG 44 Concord 38 3 minutes left in 3rd.
North 30 Central 30 Halftime.
BG 53 Concord 47 end of 3rd. 34 point quarter.

Re: Feb. 24th Games
I got mine from the official scorer at the game, but he has been known to be wrong.
Playing to the level of their competition AGAIN,
CONCORD WAS 11 FOR 17 ON 3 POINTERS.
Trinity wins 48 - 39.

Re: Feb. 24th Games
Yes, that last score is correct, Winny crushed Merrimac !
Winny was up 8-0 and never looked back, up most of the game by 15-18 points.
Merrimac shot poorly and Winny seemed to be on all cylinders tonight.

You've now entered, "The Twilight Zone". Holy smokes on the Winny/Merry score! BTW: GNG - my source isn't always reliable on exact numbers - she knows if they win, usually by how much, and almost always whether the officials had anything to do with it

Re: Feb. 24th Games
Central North game was a great game,
North played the best first quarter of basketball I have seen all year, Gauthier hit big shots but they moved the ball as a team as well.
He also made the play of they year with 3 seconds left stole the ball and then going out of bounds hit a three to end the quarter.
They were up by 9 at one point but they let up a bit
Central hung tough and the 6th man was the difference number 43 no program
Pelliter hit some big shot including a three to go up 8 with 4 minutes left
North battled back but took some threes they did not need to. Down three with a 43 seconds left Gauthier took a tough shot

GNG says BG 72-70
Mrs. JAF says BG 74-72
NHIAA says BG 70-68
I took the under at 139 -- I hope answer #3 is correct!

Re: Feb. 24th Games
BG score 72-68 then Concord got a layup with 4 secs
left so final score 72-70...... I think! Haha.
Lunn with 22, McCarthy with 12 or 13.... Cooper had quite a
few points too with 2 or 3 three-pointers. Ugly first half but a
different team came out 2nd half. Concord player #4 is
an incredible shooter and ball handler - he scored 22 as well.
Heard North game was a great one to watch!

Re: Feb. 24th Games
I saw the last 12 minutes of the North at Central game. The difference in the game was paint points. Central had so many more paint points. The North interior defense wasn't solid tonight. Joseph came off the Central bench and had a big game. Brown, Artiga and Joseph were just too much for the front line of North. Central had some offensive sequences where they had 2 to 3 put backs.
Gauthier lead all scorers with 31 points. Central had 5 players in double figures: Pelletier, LaCount, Artiga, Joseph and Brown. It was a gritty win for Central to vault themselves back into Top 4 seed contention.
Amra Elezovic got her 1000th point on a nice runner bank shot from about 5 feet as she fell to the court mid way through the first period. She became the 2nd player in Memorial girl's b-ball history to score 1000 points.

GNG told me that Justin came out with this during the Spaulding at Trinity game:
"The Trinity coach is on the court more than some of his players"

Re: Feb. 24th Games
Matt Barr had 28 points to lead Exeter to their victory over Memorial.
I heard Aluko had a very good game against Spaulding tonight with 12 points. The real big 3 of Trinity played some minutes together: Gabriel, Aluko and Lauderdale. This will bear watching down the stretch and into the playoffs. If Aluko plays in the future like he did tonight then the Pioneers will be tough to beat.
Heh Justin: so, what did you think of the McHugh Gym sensory overload? Trinity student body, a college sized front line, the poles just off the court and Coach Keefe coaching his players while standing solidly on the court of play ????????

If the refs are not going to call it, then why should he stay on sidelines!Tuesday and Friday wrote:GNG told me that Justin came out with this during the Spaulding at Trinity game:

The one thing i notice with Caoch Keefe, he is always instructing players during games.
I personally would run a player into him if I was coaching, but nobody seem to care when coaching against him.

After Keefe literally came out to half court to SHOVE Gabriel into the spot he wanted him in, I said something to that effect, followed by "I guess the refs will let him take liberties on his home floor" (It was a semi shout out to Gordon Solie)
The THS Student section was funny, but looked half empty (school vacation thinned their ranks, I'm guessing). Aluko was dominant in the first half, too tall , too long with those Kevin McHale arms- Dominic Paradis was working his butt off, but Aluko can reach up about 7 1/2 feet to catch those entry passes.
I'd like to see this game played on a bigger floor, just to see if it would have an effect.
Re: Feb. 24th Games
Pete has an interesting article about the Central game. It seems Doc has a first year player who doesn't always go to practices or even games.
How these guys coach kids today is beyond me. That's why I love the Spaulding coach.
Justin said last night a Spaulding player was suspended for the 1st half for missing practice to go to an interview at HARVARD. I found that a little rough, but rather have a coach that enforces the rules then one who let's a player come and go to practices and games and still plays him.
