Central Girls Holiday Tournament Empty Re: Central Girls Holiday Tournament

A couple of nice matchups this afternoon in the Central girl's holiday tournament:

2:30 pm Hollis Brookline vs Bay View Academy - H/B is undefeated at 4-0 in D2 and features one of the best players in the state with 5'8 senior sharp shooting guard Katie Stopera. I hear Bay View is travelling with a strong team.

4:00 pm Memorial vs Lebanon - These 2 teams are a combined 7 - 0 in December and are at the top of the standings in their respective divisions. With Memorial's Elezovic and Hartford and Lebanon's Colleen Taylor, Moriah Morton and Trina Scheie you have some star power for talented players.

Central Girls Holiday Tournament Empty Memorial/Lebanon

Post  NHRamFan Tue Dec 27, 2011 11:42 am

T and F:
Unfortunately, Trina is out for the entire season - serious ACL injury. Regardless, Lebanon plays 32 minutes of up tempo, punishing, physical hoops. Very few D2 teams will have an answer for them again this year. This should be a great game.

I understand Memorial and Lebanon scrimmaged earlier this year and the competitive-o-meter was running very high.

Central Girls Holiday Tournament Empty Lebanon/Memorial

They did - and it was. The outcome of this game will be determined by how tightly the officials call it... Lebanon challenges the officials to blow their whistles.

BayView Academy handled Hollis/Brookline.

Trinity blew out West.

In the game of the day Memorial beat Lebanon 49 - 46 in a very entertaining game. I will post more on this game on the NHN. Moriah Morton had 23 to lead all scorers. Amra Elezovic had 19 to lead Memorial.

In the semis on Wednesday night Central will play Memorial at 5:30 and BayView will play Trinity at 7:00.

Memorial beat Central 41 to 38 to move to the championship game against BayView Academy.

It was a typical intracity game. Not much separated these 2 teams for 32 minutes. Amra Elezovic had 20 to lead the Crusaders. Central had a chance to tie the game with 5 seconds to go, but turned the ball over near mid court.

Very interesting matchup in the championship game tonight at 7:00 pm at Simon "Fire Alarm" Gym. BayView Academy is very physical and plays with a chip on their shoulder. Memorial can play that game too. It should be a very competitive contest. BayView doesn't have great height, but they have that Lebanon "get after you" mentality. Memorial weathered the Lebanon tenacious wave, the intensity of an intracity rival game against Central and now they must summon some energy to deal with an ornery physical team from BayView.

Very interesting indeed.

BayView Academy beat Memorial 53 - 49 to win the Central Holiday Title.

Amra Elezovic lead Memorial with 19 points. Peace Kabari played an excellent all around game with 12 points. Allie Hartford had 8 and Danielle Fletcher chipped in 6.

Vandell Andrade received the tournament MVP. She deserved it. She was the go to girl for BV, but her supporting cast was excellent too. They had 2 guards who very good shooters. It was a very physical game. BV had Memorial on the ropes in the 3rd with a 12 point lead. Memorial fought back by making some good stops and getting the ball to Elezovic who converted a few FTs. She finished 9 - 12 from the line. Memorial was down 49 - 47 with less than 3 minutes left in the game and had ample oppurtunity to tie, but came up short. Their lack of depth hurt them at the end of the game as Elezovic and company came up short on their shots with weak legs. This will be an issue that will dog the Crusaders all season as they are only 6 deep. Elezovic, Kabari and Hartford will probably have to log 30 to 32 minutes/game in important games.

Kudos to BayView. They are a very good team that plays clean physical and their team motor is always running. This was a very good matchup and Memorial doesn't have to hang their heads. A game like this will be a very good learning experience as they meet the iron of D1 over the next 2 months.

Kudos also to Coach Wenners and the Central people for running a fine tournament with some thrilling games.
