It is interesting to notice in football that many box scores of the exact same game, can be so different. SeacoastOnline supplied a box score of Milford/Portsmouth, the Telegraph just gave numbers for players in article, In the seacoast area QB Theriault was 8 of 15 for 82 yards. The Telegraph 8 for 15 90 YDS. Interesting to note the box score for the Seacoast doesn't even list 8 completions for Bud Theriault, they only show six completions total.
My point is how can numbers be so different between media members? Is there not an official score book? There are many more differences between the two articles that are suppose to be factual that I question if it is factual. You either ran for a 104 yards or you didn't, as one them said he ran for 94 yds. See FB Joe Albina.
Folks I am not asking for perfection. But this goes on all the time, and it is rarely addressed by anyone, why?

You will soon find Box Scores are even harder to come by as area newspapers are going to online subscriptions. I know the Concord Monitor, Telegraph, Fosters and Herald are all headed in that direction (if not already). Not only are a lot of their stats incorrect they are also hard to find. Ask Dave Haley at NHSportsPage how difficult it has been to find stats, especially for football.

The official scorebook (in basketball at least) is held by the home team. At the conclusion of the game they fax/email the scores to the NHIAA, and if their proactive send the box scores to the area newspapers (however not to any online publications). My guess, to answer your question Boxout, is that the writer covering the game is keeping the stats, which is why they may alter from paper to paper.

I know when I cover BBall games for NHSportsPage I always try to keep assists, rebounds, things like that since the official scorebook only has points. Its up to the writers to keep their own stats if they want to report on them.

I got one better for you boxout. Tom King wrote BG scored while Jackson King was sidelined. Nope, he was on the field limping around playing safety. Check out Jeremy's highlight tape, that is CJ Boykins blowing by an injured King.

Tom King made no mention of it. No mention was made about Jackson not suiting up this week because of an injury.

I don't care about stats as much as I care about the story, but at least get the story right.

GNG, the above story/misinformed story you write about is why I assure you fans of HS sports probably click on The Forum, NHN and NH Sports Page among other sites when they come back from a game or wake up the next morning. A good majority go to these sites first before they click on The Telegraph, UL or Fosters. You have real fans giving pertinent information on games, players, coaches etc. Sites like ours present a viable podium on which to share thoughts and opinions.

On another thread I read where someone blasted you for "waffling" on your opinion of coaches. That's fine. At least we give the platform for fans to give their opinion. We might not agree with one another, but as long as the debates remain healthy our discussions and information are read by a fairly good following.

Last basketball season a few coaches came up to me to thank me, other members and this site for providing quicker and more concise information on rescheduled basketball games from postponed snow games. One coach told me because of this site he was able to attend a couple of games on a Saturday to scout teams he would be playing in the near future. He said he never would've received this information from the UL or NHIAA.

So, while a certain very small minority of people might register and blast you, me or others for their passionate opinions I can safely say a vast majority of people that visit this site on a daily or weekly basis appreciate the information and varied opinions coming from the nearly 200 registered members of the NH Sports Forum.

In Nashua Telegraph's game report of the Keene- Merrimack contest Shawn Cyr has Merrimack's record at 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the division.

I have them at 1- 5 overall and 1 -4 in the division.

Hard to expect them to get yardage total right when they can't even get the record's right.
