Re: Summer League Playoffs
In the upset of the summer Prospect Mountain { I don't even know where Prospect Mountain is} 55 Trinity 41. Maybe T@F'S prediction of his alma mata getting to the finals next winter is SUBJECT TO CHANGE.
Trinity must have had a ton of player's missing {just a guess}, but still that is a game they shouldn't lose no matter who is missing.

Kudos to Prospect Mtn for the upset. Trinity did not have the tri tower trio and Carmen G. Central beating Merrimack 38 to 31 with 10 minutes left in game.

Re: Summer League Playoffs
One thing interesting to watch in the Central - Merry semis were the back to back to back to back to back steals Central made on Merrimack. You would think Merrimack would've been more aware of the quickness and speed of the Central players after the first 2 to 3 steals, but the Tomos kept coming up the court dribbling and passing the ball with no awareness of the Little Green defensive surroundings and the defensive pests from Central took possession of the rock time and time again. I have a feeling Central will do this to a lot of teams they play.
Merrimack's Jeff Gianelli and Central's Junior Brown will definitely not be sending any cards to each other this Christmas season. They locked up more times in the semi final game than what happened in Alcatraz. Somehow, I don't think they were asking each other what their course selection was for their senior years when they had their multiple discussions during the game.
I really like Jeremy L of the NH Notebook. I think he is infatuated with quite a few teams in D1 in NH. The teams he think can win it or be very successful changes from night to night as just about every team he sees impresses him. I almost get the feeling, if a new high school opens up and they put 5 players on the court that win a couple of games in summer league, that team too will impress Jeremy and they might be the new frontrunners to win it all or be "playing as well as any one."
I do like Jeremy. He is so diplomatic.

Re: Summer League Playoffs
North and BG won their semi final games tonight in the Southern Summer Playoffs.
BG beat North in the championship 61 - 42.
On Friday August 5th the Tournament of Champions at SNHU will be:
5:00 pm BG vs. Prospect Mtn
6:00 pm North vs Central
7:00 pm Contests
8:00 pm Championship
When you look at the matchups the one thing sticking out is the speed and quickness that will be displayed in the North vs. Central game. Central has had a speed and quickness advantage against most every team they've played this summer. One would think North can match them step for step in the semi final game. It should be a treat to watch this game.

Re: Summer League Playoffs
Word has it there might be a rollicking band of characters from BG attending the Tournament of Champions tomorrow night at SNHU. With BG, North, The Mountain and Central playing and the BG characters, dare I say there is almost a feeling of
EPIC
for tomorrow evening. This feeling is, after all, subject to change.
Somehow the word ROLLICKING seems like an apt word to describe certain BG/Merrimack/Cardinal people.

T@F, it was FACEPLANTS 59th birthday last night so we had to go celebrate it as only we know how. I will be in attendance for the ship tonight with my bride and the Cuipa's. Rumor has it pregame at the Hilton deck, my kid is working so we can give him some grief.

Re: Summer League Playoffs
Right around 5 or 6 minutes into the start of the game BG had a 10 - 1 lead. Central was disoriented giving up the ball, not playing any defense and cold on offense. From that point on Central outscored BG 60 - 27. Bg became the disoriented team losing their men on defense, giving up the ball and going cold on offense. There were a lot of no shows for BG while Central put on a show.
I still can't get over the fact I walk in the gym and Christian Ortega appears after a 1 1/2 year vacation away from Central. He adds another dimension to Central of extreme length, something Central can use more of. With him playing it takes the paint pressure of Brown and Pelletier. When Ortega gets a good seal on his defender he usually finishes with his long arms and strength. The big question is will Ortega complete the whole season for the Little Green. This will be something to watch. It was impressive to see Central come away with the solid victory without Lafond and Dickson. Gomez did an admirable job filling in at the point guard position.
For BG, Cooper Paul had an impressive outing. Another BG player who was impressive was...... Man, I really have to give it some thought because a lot of Cardinals disappeared between 8:00 and 9:00 pm tonight. I know Migs was bristling in the coaches box while Doc once again showed a lot of smiles in coaching this athletic, fast and quick contingent of Little Green players. Migs said the tape of this game will serve as a teaching tool in the near future for his team. There does seem to be something missing from this BG team. Migs will have to find it, coach it or develop it in the future.
I believe what BG is missing right now, Webster's would define it as, "muscular organ that circulates the blood by alternate dilation and contraction."

Re: Summer League Playoffs
The one thing that Migs hates is being outoughed {is it a word} by another team. That BG team was alot of things last night but tough was not one of them.Central DOMINATED in the paint and BG was only to happy to come down and not run the offense, but chuck up a three.
Joe McCarthy didn't start the second half and played maybe 4 minutes in the second half.{Migs sending a message}.
These are a couple of my observations on what needs to change before the season starts or The Green and Gold will not be making a return trip to Durham. They need a leader, I thought they would have several of them returning. I haven't seen one yet. It doesn't have to be their best player. Someone who will tell the kids to STOP whining after every foul. Someone to tell them to stop rolling their eyes when their coaches are talking to them. Someone to tell them to stop crying because they are getting pushed in the paint, push back. Someone to tell them you RUN off the court during a timeout, and run on the court. Someone to tell them to keep their heads up when things are going bad. This is their biggest need right now, someone to hold the players accountable on the court.
I saw a team last night playing BG basketball, unfortunately for BG it was Central.Tough, aggressive, physical hoops was being played by The Little Green. Doc went home a happy man. Migs saw his team play pretty boy basketball, probably pretty ticked off.
A few people told me Doc's biggest challenge will be to have these kids eligible thruout the season. If he can do that they will be as good as anyone in division one this year.
Migs meanwhile might be smiling deep, deep, down knowing he has his work cut out for him. The one word that comes to mind when one thinks of Mignault coached teams is TOUGH. I guarantee you Migs will toughen them up before the start of the season, but he can't make a leader. Someone has to step forward, the sooner the better.
