Re: Top defender's
He tires but he does not see all the Div one teams play and seems to be spending to much time of late doing small time basketball. Which is fine but there is a huge difference between D 1 and D3 and D 4
there is not a better on the ball defender in Div one than A. Mucciolli as a guard. He was guarding Mcglug in South win over BG and do a good job on Flores as well.

Re: Top defender's
I say this with the utmost respect because I really like the NH Notebook and all the dedication that goes into the site, but to para phrase my old friend Rod Serling:
"Submitted for your approval for Top 20 Defenders in the state, David Madol of Memorial. A player who blocks 4 to 6 shots/game and alters another 6 to 8 shots/game."

Floras
He's good but i think Floras had around 20 or 25 that game not exactly shutting him down. But what really gets me is he has a ton of Juniors at the top of list and none of them would stop any of the top player's in the state when it counts. The truth can be found in the numbers like points, wins and losses. If you want to find out who's really making a difference then you have to look at head to head match up's and see if they hold a consistent validity. I also think if your looking at making a list i would go with top players on the list before some kid who is playing d3 ball or has two years playing experience as he has listed. I also feel it's wrong to say a player who only concentrates soley on defense is a better defender than let's say a scorer who is going all out on the other end of the floor. I mean let's be honest here a minute and let's say you take a Madol, Holder or Floras type player and tell them you only wanted them to be a defender do you really think any coach would take the Notebooks list over those three? And one last thing during big games like playoffs is where you will see those types easily seperate themselves from that list.

It's tough to comment when you have a horse in the race
The kelly's called to let us know last night that little gng was on the list, when I told him he responded "winning the ship is the only list I care about".I absolutely love that attitude, not about me,it's about we.For the record though,Holder, and Madol are in my top 2.My personal feeling is these lists should come out after Durham, after everything is said and done.Right now it should be all about TEAM.

Re: Top defender's
I agree with basketballtime about playoff time being when there is great separation.
GNG I don't think it's a problem debating the concept of the list as long as we don't debate the maker.
If conversation is directed at who a poster would put on the list and why as well as who the poster wouldn't ... that is really about the topic and not the listmaker.
AND Madol is on my own list. Frankly, he does so many things on the court he's earned a spot on most of my basketball list this year.

Re: Top defender's
I don't mind talking about NHN's rankings/lists here - but if you have an issue with with the listmaker please go over to NHN and post your comment there. I'm sure NHN would appreciate the page hits.

Re: Top defender's
Once again - the list can be debated - if you want. Where kids should be on the list etc.
Again though, we're talking about a ranking for the best defenders in NH here...my opinion lies with rankings of our kids in general, which we already discussed at the beginning of the season.
While a ranking of this type creates "buzz" about basketball which overall is a good thing for the state, I don't hold a lot of clout in any ranking where we're talking about 90% of the kids on the list that won't be playing organized basketball outside of intramurals next year.
If there were STATISTICS to back up the list, such as steals, deflections, etc. then this list, and other rankings would make more sense. Every good ranking has statistical analysis to back up the groups opinion.

The facts are the facts period
When you make a list of the best defenders i agree thousand percent with you Assistant, you must have all the stats. That being said i will repeat my statement of give me the top players of 2011 and tell them they can only play all out on the defensive side of the ball and i will give you my top defenders.

Re: Top defender's
That's a good point, I mean obviously if guys like McClung, Holder, O'Loughlin, Spirou etc didn't have to exert so much energy on the offensive end of the floor, and only focus on defense, they would inevitably be better defenders.
The list would probably be different - but its not really a list we'd ever be able to come up with since that scenerio of the best players in the state only playing defense would never happen. You could argue it...but impossible to back up with any sort of statistics or even game experience.

Re: Top defender's
One thing I was just thinking about - if you look at the best defenders in the NBA, and some of the guys who have won this award, they are also very talented offensive players. Jordan was CONSTANTLY on the ALL-NBA defensive team. Kobe Bryant as well.
Offensive Players on the All-NBA defensive team
Jordan - 9 times
Duncan - 8
Garnett - 8
Bryant - 8
Pippen - 8
Frazier - 7
Kareem - 5
Hakeem - 5
Kidd - 4
Sure there are guys I didn't list that are "defensive specialists", but doesn't doing it on both ends of the court makes their defensive domination more impressive and noteworthy? Maybe this is more to your point BBalltime?

It is.
Your right and that's why when going for player of the year you have to look at the whole picture.

Re: Top defender's
This thread is done.
Seriously, do I REALLY need to spell it out for you guys? The Forum is not a place to voice your gripes with other websites, media outlets, people, officials etc etc etc. You don't like what they will or won't allow, well guess what...I DON'T CARE. I'm sick of having to edit posts where people are bashing other websites. NOT HERE. NOT NOW. NOT EVER.
Find another avenue to complain. Here's an idea, start a blog. www.blogger.com or www.wordpress.com are two free services where you can write about whatever you want and sensor whatever comments you want. Or check this FREE forum builder called Forumotion, sound familiar?
Maybe you guys can tell, I'm getting a little frustrated. Remember, I do this for free. I don't ask anything of you but be respectful and adhere to the minimal forum rules.
What I giveth, I can also taketh away.
