Jordan Cote Signs w/the Yankees
Winnisquam's 6'5" righthander signed last night with the Yankees that included a $750,000 bonus. So far he's the highest paid guy taken in the 3rd round. NH's baseball roots once again are spreading. Congratulations and good luck to Jordan, one of NH's best pitchers in recent memory.

Jordan was the NH Gatorade Player of the Year in 2011, he had signed a letter of intent to play for Coastal Carolina this fall, but will now be following his dream through the Yankees minor league system.

Cote officially signed with the Yankees on Tuesday night at the Concord Sports Center. Here's some video footage from a night to remember in NH baseball. http://www.nhnotebook.com/2011/08/cote-signs-with-yankees.html

WMUR reported this morning that Joey Maher will sign with the Yankees some time today.

The Yankees came on strong at the end with Joey. They scouted him quite a bit this summer. He accepted a $300K signing bonus and they put $240K into the MLB scholarship program to cover his education down the road. (They had to compensate him for the 100% scholarship he gave up with Northeastern). The MLB program is a use it or lose it fund, so the guys that make it to the bigs usually do not use it. I am sure Jordan Cote got whatever $$ he gave up at Coastal Carolina put into the same program.
Joey is heading to Tampa on Monday and will be rooming with Jordan down there.

Re: Jordan Cote Signs w/the Yankees
Thanks JJM that's great they'll be able to ease into the program together, rooming together and going through the same trials and tribulations. Keep us updated if you can!

Here are a few links on Jordan and Joey - seems they are handling the transition pretty well. Both are in the Dominican at the Yankees Complex for a 2 week "instructs" camp and then done throwing until probably January.

Great to See
I am very happy for these two players, it is great for NH. I guess I can see why ticket prices are so outrageous to baseball games. I think it is great the kid got a $750,000 signing bonus, am I the only one shaking my head that a third round baseball pitcher gets this just to sign? I am hoping these two kids make it to the pros, but boy that is way too much money for a player who has never suited up in a MLB uniform. It is mind-boggling.
Twenty years ago I use to go to every Sunday game, and part-time Saturdays, the Red Sox played at home, ten years ago I started going once or twice a month, 5 years ago I started going 5 times a year, last season twice. I am not saying they are pricing me out, but am I the only one who can think of better ways to spend over $500.00 (that maybe low) for a family of 4. My buddies and I actually use to buy 4 tickets and 3 of us would go, that open seat comes in handy. Now I only buy 3 tickets and two of us go, it is sad that Fenway is no longer for the baseball fan or purist. It has become a "vacation spot" now. This summer I went to two games and spent more than I did at a weekend in Laconia.
