Game Night Tuesday February 22
Pinkerton and Alvirne in what may be two of the most interesting teams in regards to predictability ... not that there's a lot of predictability in the Season of Parity in Div 1.
North and Merrimack - I for one, expect Floras and team to take this W
Central and Dover - Central has had 2 heartbreaking losses but Dover is a team that is most always "On". Probably the best game of the night in D1
West & Memorial - Memorial just beat Central and will take on another city rival tonight before meeting Trinity next week.
Post scores etc from the night in this thread, please...

Re: Game Night Tuesday February 22
I think Pinkerton vs Alvrine is a toss up.
Dover at Central is a very interesting game. Central is #6 and Dover #7. This game means a lot for playoff seeding. Central still has an outside shot to secure a top 4 seed. Defense will probably dominate this game. I think this game is a toss up also.
Memorial at West on paper seems like it should be a solid 10 to 15 point victory for the Crusaders. West has never really clicked on all cylinders this season {As GNG has reminded me on a weekly basis by dropping off basketball dead horses in my bed similar to the character Jack Woltz in The Godfather}. Last year a Quinton Hunter put back at the buzzer stunned the Crusaders. I don't think there will be anything stunning in this game.
I'm sure Salem is not enamored with the new points system this year. Salem is 11-3 and Trinity is 10 - 3. Salem just beat Trinity 42 - 40 in the Blackout game, but they are still behind Trinity in the standings with the new home/away victory points system. Merrimack is breathing down Salem's neck for the all important #4 seed and Merry holds the head to head tie breaker with Salem as the Tomos beat Salem 63 - 62. Something tells me the potential for a lot of e-mails from the city of Salem to the NHIAA may be high in the next couple of weeks.

Interesting pt about Salem's ranking... I had sympathy pangs for them when I saw the ranking myself.
They both have some tough matches ahead though (Trinity more than Salem in my opinion) so it may become more/less of a factor.
I bet when final rankings come out though... there will be teams terribly irked by this new and (imo not needed) system.

Sorry to disagree with you T@F but
Salem controls their own fate.they have 3 road games,2 very winnable and Central. They also host Guertin. They sweep and they get top 2 seeds.Merrimack is the team that needs help because of their last 4 games 3 are at home, and at guertin.
Salem has 49 points thru 14 games,if they win their 3 road games and lose to BG, that would give them 64 points.Salem wins 2 road games, and beats BG at home and that is still 63 points.
Merrimack has 45 points even if they win all 4 remaining games, that would give them only 62 points.
Merrimack beat Salem head to head, they could end up with the same record, and on the outside looking in.I said it before,I'll say it again this new system is wacked.I am the self appointed sports forum playoff scenario guru.

Big D2 Girls game tonight, Portsmouth heads into Oyster River in a game that will essentially decide who the # 6 seed will be. Both teams are 12-4, ORHS won the first one 47-42 way back on 1/3/11. PHS has a healthy Ali Beauregard this time around, but ORHS still has Danielle Walczack. Should be a good one!
(Shameless plug: We'll have this game on The Sports Animal starting at 6:20 PM :-P )

How Come?
How come no one is talking about Milford's big game with Brady tonight? This could go a long way to Milford being undefeated... lol

And I wish GNG would obtain somebody from the social media to do some correct punctuation for him.
This could certainly happen in a social setting.

Re: Game Night Tuesday February 22
Milford girls won 56-41. Despite starting 1-11, with a favorable end of the season schedule they won 5 of there last 6 and snuck into the 16th and final playoff spot. The past 4 or 5 years this is pretty much the formula the girls put together to squeak out the last spot.

bg 71 winnie 46
Green was on fire, played maybe 10 minutes had 27,mcclung maybe 1 quarter 15 points.Score after 3 was 68-38,guertins last 5 put up 3 points in final quarter.I am sure the winnie coach appreciated the class act displayed by migs, almost as much as I appreciated Mr.Holler picking up the tab at the Galley hatch.T@F,my guy at the central game was commenting on the ref's,wondering what you thought?

ChiKid, Trinity at Spaulding is the place to be on Friday. Riviera Motel, Elks Club and bars open till all hours. Where else would you rather be this Friday than in the scenic town of Rochester.

Re: Game Night Tuesday February 22
Central 67 Dover 58
End of the 3rd: Dover 49 Central 45
A 6:30 tap off? What the heck? I walk into Simon gym at 7 pm and there is 2 minutes left in the first half. I guess with the Salem at Trinity 2nd half and tonight this is my week to watch 2nd half basketball games.
At the half it was 28 to 28. Dover went on a 9 - 0 run in the first 3 minutes of the 2nd half to secure a 37 - 28 lead. Junior Brown hit a couple of big hoops down low to fight back the Green Wave. Melendez hit a nice 3 also to get Central back in the game. I don't mean to beat this like the veritable GNG horse, but when Junior Brown MIXES IT UP IN THE PAINT and makes his presence felt Central is a much better team. This was evident during the 3rd quarter as Brown had 6 points. Dover had 21 points in the 3rd, 8 of which came from the line as they aggressively took the ball to the hoop. Rugged Senior Kyle Wilson did a very good job defensively on Wickey in the 3rd by not allowing him to hit the glass as he normally would. It was funny to see 6'4 Morgan Faustino cover Central's 5'7 Melendez as Wilson concentrated on Wickey.
It was 58 - 58 with 2 minutes to go. Lafond hit a back door layup and then LaCount hit a jumper to make it 62 - 58. Mahan was called for a charge with 1:30 to go. Central put the game on ice with some made FTs.
Central won the 4th quarter 22 - 9 by having a balanced scoring attack. Lafond 4, Brown 4, Melendez 5, Pelletier 2, LaCount 4 and Wickey 3 paced the Little Green scoring in the pivotal 4th. Central seemed to want it more in the 4th. Dover lost players defensively which lead to easy hoops for Central. Dover looked tired. Faustino and Al Darraji each had 9 points in the 2nd half, but did not have very much offensive support outside of LeBlanc. Mejia was a non factor which was surprising.
This was a big bounce back victory for Central. Dover hit them with a 9 - 0 run to start the 2nd half. Over the next 13 minutes Central out scored Dover 39 - 21.
Central got muscled for a good part of the game by Dover and still won the game. Salem comes in for a visit on Thursday. One thing Salem has is muscle. It will be interesting to see how Central handles Salem's physicality. Central must take away Salem's 2nd shots on the offensive glass if they are to beat Salem. It will be a very interesting game.
