Re: Friday 1/14 Game Thread
From John Doyle of Fosters DD - "Spaulding beats Guertin 84-78 in overtime in Rochester. Brian Cronin hits 3 with 6 seconds left to force OT, scores 3 in OT to secure win."
Very nice win for Red Raiders. They're for real folks.

Re: Friday 1/14 Game Thread
Well, you knew the BG - Spaulding game was going to be high scoring, but I'm still trying to figure out if Spaulding's upswing this year is more of an addition for Spaulding or more of a subtraction for the rest of D1? Spaulding was the #15 seed in the playoffs last season.
Mind you, I say this with the utmost respect for Spaulding's accomplishments so far this season.

Wow, Memorial was up 59 to 40 over South at the end of the 3rd period and Memorial hung on to win 67 - 65.
Madol had 26 and Morgan had 14.

GNG posting answers my question that the Rochester bars will not have to send for more delivery trucks before midnight.

t@f what a fun game.
Here is the question, your up 3 their ball 16 seconds left,do you let them run some clock and foul or play it out?I think it is split 50/50 on the answer.the kid hit a sick 3.I bet they had 12 three's if not more.

Re: Friday 1/14 Game Thread
I would foul with a little time left and send them to the line. The chances of them hitting the first ft and then intentionally missing the 2nd one to get a tieing shot is less of a percentage than a 3 pointer.

Re: Friday 1/14 Game Thread
I've argued that numerous times with people and I usually hear let them play it out...but I will give the foul everytime and not even give them a chance at the 3 especially if they were shooting well as you said.

You missed it Basketballtime...
You missed it, Mitchell went off in the first quarter getting 6 assist in the first quarter and could have had 9 or 10 but Milford missed a few easy buckets. It was quite a performance. Then Jamie got going and it was over. Not sure what he finished with but had to be at least 22 or 24. Mitchell ended up with 15 and 10. Mike O hit a few bombs and it was over by halftime. Carney hit some shots late and showed he is a solid player but he does not have much more on that team. I was surprised the game wasn't closer. I was worried about this one.

I foul also
I foul also but you must make sure it is before the act of shooting. I think some coaches worry that the player will chuck it at the hoop and get three shots but I feel fouling is the best way to go. I was begging for a foul last year against Portsmouth... we all know that would have been better than what happened there.

Maybe they were mad at the four day trip it takes just to get there?

^ I think about that situation everytime some one says not to foul in that situation.

Re: Friday 1/14 Game Thread
Don't forget, Pinky was in this same situation in the Class L championship game last year and they let it play out. Winny hit a 3 at the end of regulation to send the game into OT. Mathieu bailed them out with a big performance in OT.

Scoring
Not sure if it is just a coincidence or what but with all the talk about low scoring in NHIAA ball tonight D2 really rung up some numbers.
Milford scored 75
Pembroke 78
Souhegan 80
Portsmouth 85
Pelham 77
stark 74
Goffstown no score posted but we know their pattern...
Looks like D2 is where the numbers are run up.

Caleb Donnelly scored half of Alvrine's 52 points against Trinity.
Alvrine built a big early lead against Trinity by pressing the Pioneers full court and forcing them into numerous turnovers.

Is that because of the lack of defense?

Maybe they wouldn't have to score so much if they played defense?

ChiKid, not "having my cake and wanting to eat it too" (offense along with defense), how is the defense in D2 this season?

Actually decent.

Just took a quick peak at Milfords numbers and they pretty much keep teams around the fifty mark.

Milford is the best team in D2. I'm talking about the top 8 to 10 teams in D2.

The top 6 or 7 teams could play in D1 defensively.
I believe the top half of the playoff bracket would be solid teams defensively in D1 as well. The few big guys in D1 would show to be tough matchups with some of D2. I think Madol,Wickey and the Trinity front line bigger and stronger than some of the other D2 teams but I do think Portsmouth,Pelham,Souhegan, and Milford are just as good defensively as the top tier of D1.

Re: Friday 1/14 Game Thread
Could the top 6 to 7 teams in D2, outside of Milford, be able to score on a consistent basis on D1 teams, given that majority of D1 teams concentrate their energies on the defensive end?
