Re: Why is scoring so low ??
When I look at the box score from Central's 51 - 39 victory over West on Friday I see 3 of the 8 periods went into double digits. The rest had either 8 or 9 points scored. With Trinity's tall front line and second shots being at a minimum for Central I think I'll go with under. Central can play defense also with Wickey anchoring the back of the paint with Brown. If 6 to 7 of the 8 periods go into double digits then it'll be just barely like 10 to 12 points in a period. The only way either of these 2 teams will score 15 to 19 points in a period will be the 4th period if they are up and hit FTs in the last couple of minutes to salt away a victory.

Re: Why is scoring so low ??
Speaking of the 1982 Memorial state champion team here is some interesting information from the 1982 tournament. Memorial was the #5 seed that year heading into the tournament. The format was the top 4 teams received a bye and the number 5 to 12 teams played prelim games. The winners would then advance to play the top 4 seeds at UNH in the quarter finals. It seems like the head of the NHIAA was a one man show in those days and was at the end of his tenure. He had a personal agenda and somehow Memorial as the #5 seed played BG who was the #3 seed in the quarter finals and had Skip Barry. Memorial beats BG and Barry in the quarter final in an OT game. Memorial then moved on to win their semi final game and beat Nashua 69 to 62 in the state title game. Nashua was the #4 seed. So, you had the #4 seed Nashua playing the #5 seed Memorial in the state title game. Memorial scored 302 points in their 4 playoff wins to average 75 points/game for a Class L team tournament scoring record that still stands after 28 years. Skip Barry came back as a junior to help BG win the state title in 1983 which was the last time BG won a basketball state title. In Barry's senior year BG lost an epic state title game to Portsmouth and James Best 51 to 45. The hype for that game was big as Barry and Best were the consensus top 2 players in the state that season.
During this time there were a lot of #1 to #4 teams that were upset in the quarterfinals with the new format of #5 to #12 playing games while #1 to #4 sat and waited for their quarterfinal games. There was a move a few years later to put the number of teams making the playoffs to 16 so every team had an opening round playoff game. This format is the current one being used in D1.

Pistol Pete. Coach Quirk had some offensive teams at 1 Crusader Way, but the Pistol knew how to have a team be offensive minded and without benefit of the 3 point shot.
