Coaching Changes Empty Coaching Changes

Post  EBlessNHSP Wed May 12, 2010 10:31 am

Lots of changes so far in the offseason, many of which were reported by Jeremy over on his blog. Some interesting coaching changes to note:

Sam Carey recently stepped down as West HS coach.
Former Conant legend Joe Giovannangeli's contract was not renewed at Keene HS.
EJ Perry will no longer be at the helm of Salem HS boys basketball and will instead coach Football at Andover HS in MA.

Wow. To say the least. According to a UL article Carey stepped down for family reasons. Can you blame him? I mean what a plethora of issue's he's had to deal with in the last few years. From losing Bedford players to just trying to get 5 guys on the court for practice! Good luck to him and his future endeavors.

The non-renewal of Coach Gio's contract at Keene is a curious one. Here's a guy with a proven track record at Conant who only gets a VERY brief stint as coach to show what he can do at Keene? I mean it's not like people are clamoring for the Keene HS boys hoop job. Its a baseball town. And every Class L away game is an hour and a half road trip. I'm sure he'll get another offer, hopefully somewhere close to his hometown.

Then there's EJ who's moved on to the greener pastures of Football. You can't argue this decision really either. He's achieved so much at the highest level of NH HS boy basketball. Coach of the year, multiple state titles, loved by the city he coaches in. Time for him to move on to a new challenge. If Coach Belichek was still coaching the Cleveland Browns don't you think people around the league would be scratching their heads a bit? Of course the Browns would probably have won about 5 Super Bowls by now too...Anyway, good move for him and his family and a new challenge in a sport that I'm sure he hold dear to his heart.

WGAM is announcing their NH Mr. Basketball award on Thursday night, I believe the broadcast from the Raddison Hotel in Nashua begins around 5:30. I'll be there, maybe making a spot appearance if they'll let me talk...tune in folks!
