The current Conant coach has been there for 2 years, and obviously won 2 titles. Coach Joe, who was the one who got this program to where it is now, won the titles the three previous years. The player that died, Stephen Record, died over Christmas break 3 years ago, Coach Joe's last year. Eric has done a fantastic job transforming them into his team...a full court man-2-man pressing team as opposed to the zone playing teams that Joe won with.

I am, however, interested to see how Conant does next year after losing their "big three" of Kim, Peard and Martin. They have been 3 year starters who learned not to accept losing from previous teammates/coach...how the program moves forward from here will be fun to watch, and a real challenge for the coach...none the less, it's been a very impressive run.

On top of all this, the Conant coach lives in Concord, teaches at ConVal (I think) and coaches basketball at Conant. Talk about logging some miles! He did a great job with this group.

Class M Boys Tournament - Page 2 Empty Conants JV Team

Post  chicagokid43 on Fri Mar 12, 2010 1:06 pm

I have to tell you that one of the best JV teams I seen this year was in Conant. I watched them beat Campbell by 20+. I am not thinking that they can continue the current dominance of 5 titles in a row but they will still be a force in class M for the next few years. IT isnt going to fall to far.

Class M Boys Tournament - Page 2 Empty Sorry Carp

Sorry, I was very impressed with the JV teams passing ability and outside shooting. They also still have some good players from the Varsity team that are still there next year also. Mainly the Ezra kid that is big at 6'5 and can step out and hit threes. By no means will they be the power team of this year but they are a very balanced program with a coaching staff that teaches the right way to play the game very well. As you guys all know I am very opinionated but I still believe that Coach Soucier is one of the best coaches in NH. The program will not fall far.

I agree, Eric has done a great job keeping that program where he has. I'm sure they'll be in the mix for quite a while...success breads success.

Why did coach Joe leave?

So Stephen Record would have graduated last year, I just think it is amazing that they won two titles with that happening credit to both coaches and the kids and for that Matter the communities as a whole.

To me it is almost a movie worthy story.

Joe is from Maine...left to coach a Class A school there (Kennebeck I believe). After one season, had to move back to NH for personal reasons...but of course had already been replaced...so he ended up in Keene this year. It certainly was a credit to that community as a whole to overcome such a difficult circumstance to keep the winning tradition rolling. Record was their most dangerous outside threat, even as a soph. Winning breeds winning down there...no one wants to be the team to end the streak.

FYI Conant was given a East Special Mention in the end of the year ESPN Rise rankings. While they had a GREAT season, we all know they probably aren't even the best team in our state. Goes to show some of these "rankings" just go by stat lines...
