Feb. 28th Games - The Finish Line Empty Feb. 28th Games - The Finish Line

As usual there are log jams as we head into the last night of regular season play. The #4 and #5 seeds are still undecided with Lond and BG. Alvirne, West and North are in a 3 way tie for 15th, so 1 of these 3 teams won't make the tournament. Just about every other seed seems fairly definitive with previous head to head matchups cementing the seedings.

North at Alvirne: This game is basically a playoff game. Winner guarantees themselves getting into the playoffs, while the loser has to wait for the result of the West at Concord game. If West wins then the North - Alvirne loser is out. If West loses then the Blue Knights are out and North and Alvirne are in.

#11 Spaulding at #5 BG: The Cardinals must win this to have a chance to host 2 playoff games. They are tied with Lond with the Lancers having the head to head tie breaker.

#15 West at # 14 Concord: This will basically be a playoff game for West. Win and you're in. Lose and you're out.

#4 Lond at # 9 South: Both teams have lost their last 2 games. Both teams need a much needed momentum building W to head into the 2nd season.

#18 Dover at #2 Trinity: The best thing about this game is that tap time has been moved up a smidgen (6:00 pm) so everyone can start enjoying their weekend sooner.

#12 Memorial at #6 Winny: A fascinating matchup with 2 teams that like to push the ball up the court. Even though Winny scored only 37 against Alvirne in their last game I just have a feeling this game will have a lot of points.

Here's the Concord Monitor's "Pound for Pound" rankings of winter HS teams in the Concord area. I would love to be able to ask Coach Matt Alosa how he feels being ranked behind the following teams in this "Pound for Pound" rankings:

(Published in print: Friday, February 28, 2014)

POUND-FOR-POUND HIGH SCHOOL RANKINGS

Team (with last week’s rank)

1. HOPKINTON GIRLS’ X-C SKIING (3) Sarah Nadeau won both the classic and freestyle races at Saturday’s Meet of Champions.

2. CONCORD x-c skiing (1) After helping the Tide girls to a sixth straight D-I title, Kate Andy finished fifth in both MOC races.

3. COE-BROWN GIRLS’ TRACK (2) The Bears had eight top-three finishers in the 13 events at the D-II championship.

4. PEMBROKE BOYS’ BASKETBALL (6) The defending champs finished the regular season 17-1 to earn the No. 1 seed in D-II.

5. BOW GIRLS’ X-C SKIING (4) Lilly Naimie and Naomi Kramer will represent N.H. at the Eastern High School Championships.

I'm sure Coach Alosa would give an answer that would add a lot of color to any article  Very Happy

No word on how close the vote was in favor of the Pembroke Boy's Bball team edging out the Bow girls' X-C Ski team  Wink

Wow, my Lancers beat South in 2 OTs 87 - 80.

I didn't see this game, but it seems like it had a feel of a Quarterfinal playoff game.

Great momentum builder for the White Horse to ride into the Playoffs !!! cheers cheers cheers

D. If the game disqualification is administered in the final contest of the season (including tournament
play), the penalty shall be carried over in that sport and invoked at the first regular season game the
following academic year. If a disqualification is administered to a graduating senior or coach in his final
game of coaching for that school, it is the expectation that the school will take immediate and
appropriate disciplinary action.
E. Any player who leaves the bench area during an interscholastic athletic event where an altercation is
taking place in the playing area shall receive a one-game disqualification for the next scheduled game.
