BG Student/Athlete Situation
There was an incident over the weekend involving a Student Athlete on the BG basketball team. Lets respect the families privacy and not discuss this topic on the Forum. Obviously there are implications with the State Semifinals approaching, and the availability of that Student Athlete, and it will certainly affect the game if he is not to play. I'm sure that will play out eventually, just not here.
Lets not delve into a situation that is surely being handled by the individuals family in the fashion they deem appropriate.

I am just letting you guys know and I am not going to say anything but...
The Nashua Telegraph Sports has just broke the story on their Facebook Page and I am going to guess it'll be in tomorrow paper if they do report it at all.

I saw UL article too...but i didn't want to make much of the situation until well everybody did. By WMUR and Telegraph doing stories it pretty much sealed the fate that this would go very public. Guess its a slow news day.
Re: BG Student/Athlete Situation
Problem with this whole situation: Is it not the law that a minor's name not be released if he/she is arrested? And in that case the telegraph made a BIG mistake.

I think each state has their own laws but I am certainly not a lawyer. All and all, a sad situation for a young man, his family and his teammates. Things will play out as they are meant to play out.

In the State of New Hampshire, 17 years old is the minimum age to be charged as an adult. I don't know Boykins age, but the release of his name and the charges by the Hudson Police leads me to believe he is being charged as an adult.

A ggogle search gave me this:
In a unanimous 1979 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Smith v. Daily Mail that the First Amendment protects the right of journalists to use the names of minors in newsworthy stories as long as the information is "lawfully obtained" and "truthfully" reported
Now newsworhty could certainly be debated in this case.

Re: BG Student/Athlete Situation
It fits the definition of newsworthy actually as it has a number of the elements of news.
Ethics of running it are where it's open to interpretation.
Whatever we think or don't think about it - I'm so proud the forum is not open to discussing it.

Re: BG Student/Athlete Situation
You guys say not to talk about the situation on the forum in respect to the kid and his family but your talking about it and do you think the family wants a link to the article on what he did? If you really wanted to be respectful to the kid and family end the topic because no kid wants a link on a popular website to an article where it saus he was arrested

Just providing information. I will remove it because I believe in this being the "people's" forum!
That said, it is extremely public at this point...nothing any other forum wouldn't do or the states 3 biggest news outlets haven't done by giving the story coverage. My issue is more with speculation with what should be done as far as repercussions...that's not productive.

This is the kind of speculation that's not needed.

Re: BG Student/Athlete Situation
you wanna post articles, heres one and its not the only one,
http://www.nhnotebook.com/2012/12/boys-basketball-division-i-season.html
we proved all you doubters wrong and we made it to unh because were a family and im not gonna have people tell me you guys are bashing one of my brothers on here because of a mistake that he regrets. we wouldnt be here if it wasnt for his performance against central so instead of making a topic about a mistake, make a topic of his performance or a topic about how no one thought we would be in the final four. But no instead you find little things to try and make us look bad because our school wins and it just gives us motivation just like all the preseason articles did.

No one is bashing your friend, Not one person has said something negative about him as a person. In my opinion he made mistake that doesnt really affect peoples view on him cuz all he did was throw an egg which isnt harmless but close to it. This has nothing to do with people disliking BG for having a winning tradition its just a matter of news that greatly affects the final four

Perhaps you should read through the thread first. Nobody bashed him. Nobody has said a single word. This is in the news...its a key factor in the final four. In fact, I think from a basketball perspective if he doesn't play that needs to be discussed. Not why he isn't playing, but the fact that he isn't.
I will not remove this thread, feel free to PM me if you have issues. For now, this thread will be locked because clearly folks can't hold back opinions on what should be done from a disciplinary standpoint. That is not what we're here to discuss. Take that to the UL or Telegraph comments on the bottom of both their articles.
