First Annual GNG Prediction/ Guess division one final standings Contest.
Rules are simple. Predict the final standings 1-19.
Winner gets a free lunch with me. Anybody who has had lunch with me knows you better set aside 3-4 hours.
How hard could it be, there are only 6 games left ?
I hope T@F puts in an entry. Love to see where he puts his beloved Lancers.
The winner will be selected by whoever picks the most correct final standings spots.
EXAMPLE. You pick Trinity 1st and they finish 1st , you get a point. They finish 2nd you get zero points.
I figure I will win it, but I am interested who has the 2nd most sports knowledge on this forum.
Gotta take my kids back to college . My selections will be up when I get back.

If I enter a contest, GNG, it'll be yours.... tho I'm sure T&F will start a rival and competitive contest thread soon.

Re: First Annual GNG Prediction/ Guess division one final standings Contest.
No Tully, T@F won't start one because that would mean he would have to spring for lunch. We all know that ain't happening.
I just finished. This is nuts. I had 5-7 teams with 12-6 records.

Re: First Annual GNG Prediction/ Guess division one final standings Contest.
1 Trinity- How are they not undefeated?
2 Salem- Even though I have them finishing 2nd, I still don't see them getting to Durham.
3 Merrimack- Winning ugly, but still winning. With Dimitri scoring 66, giving up 47. Without Dimitri scoring 50 giving up 45.
4 North- Goldenbear, North at BG Thursday. Should be a good one,
5 Spaulding- No team plays to the level of their competition like this squad. They play good against good teams, and bad against bad teams.
6 BG- Stop laughing. Lund rd is now called The cocoon of love. By the way in this season of PUTRID scoring, do you know who the highest scoring team is? I DO
7 Central- Having Lafond back certainly bolsters their backcourt. How does Doc just add a player to his roster halfway thru the season?
8 West- Kid should have been suspended weeks ago. Big thumbs down to West's administation.
9Alvirne- I guess they would rather be the hunter then the hunted..
10 Pinkerton- They could lose 5 of their next 6.
11 South- I now have them finishing at .500. Barely.
12 Memorial- I don't get what people like in this team. I'm not seeing it.
13 Exeter- One and done.
14 Winnie- Hard to last long in the playoffs if you haven't beaten a team with a winning record.
15 Londonderry. As Gomer Pyle used to say "suprise, suprise, suprise." I may be dumb, but I'm not stupid.
16 Dover- Trinity gets to feast on them in the first round
17 Keene- Hard to root for this team. Those 2 mom's who like to write letters about other team's coaches are about to be exposed.
18 Concord- got em with 4 wins.
19 Timberlane- I would skip d2 and drop them all the way to d3.
2 Salem- Even though I have them finishing 2nd, I still don't see them getting to Durham.

Now I will see if there are any takers. It's way harder then it looks. You could have 8 teams at 12-6.

Re: First Annual GNG Prediction/ Guess division one final standings Contest.
1. Trinity (16-2). Best team in division one, but you catch them in an off night and the certainly can be beaten.
2. Salem (14-4). Slepian has carried this team on his back, but I don't think he'll take them past the quarterfinals.
3. Manchester Central (13-5). With Lafond back from his track stardom, he could take this team to Durham if all the pieces fall right.
4. Merrimack (13-5). With Floras' timetable for return uncertain, this team could fall in the second round if he isn't back.
5. Nashua North (12-6). Solid basketball team with the intangables to make it to Durham, but I don't see it happening.
6. Manchester West (12-6). Before Bureau's suspension, I'd say 75% chance of making it to Durham, now, it's at about 30%. It all lays in the hands of senior guard Aaron Martin.
7. Spaulding (12-6). Spaulding and Central are the two most bipolar teams in the division. You get the good Spaulding team,
watch out. You get the bad, Spaulding will lose in the second round.
8. Alvirne (12-6). Talk about a team who I had a shoe-in for the final four two weeks ago. Now I don't see them getting past
the first round if BG plays their game.
9. Bishop Guertin (11-7). A team who will rely heavily on Joe McCarthy and Jeff Lunn, but it's the role players who have
brought back hopes of a strong playoff run for BG.
10. Nashua South (10-. This is the team who I believe can be the Cinderella story if they play their cards right. A few tough
single digit loses overshadow how good this team really is.
11. Pinkerton Academy (9-9). These guys just don't have enough firepower to keep up with the top teams in the division.
12. Manchester Memorial (9-9). Another team who has had their ups and downs, but after their game against Merrimack, the
youth has been exposed and I think the experience factor will hinder the Crusaders.
13. Winnacunnet (6-12). Young team, a lot of heart, but just not enough in the "star" department.
14. Exeter (5-13). This team confuses me. Some nights I see them, I'm really impressed. Some nights I just don't know why I
had those thoughts. They have one guy on this team who does everything, that is just no way to win in this division.
15. Londonderry (4-14). Here's T@F's Cinderella team. They'll more than likely be up against a tough Salem team in the first
round. Salem won 37-34 on opening night. Could it really be possible Londonderry pulls off the upset? Not even a chance.
16. Keene (4-14). Whoever was the 16 seed would have a 0% chance of beating Trinity. Sorry Keene, your time in the dance
is up before it even started.
17. Dover (3-15). This team has only two wins over D1 opponents, both in the bottom echelon. Their fate will rest in whether
they can beat Exeter at home on Senior night, and pray Keene loses the games they should win.
18. Concord (3-15). Kaleb Marquis has played well for a kid on a team with very little talent. If he had played for any of the
top schools, he'd be a much better player with a supporting cast.
19. Timberlane (0-18). Remind me why these guys are bad? Oh yeah, this is wrestling season and all athletic males choose that over basketball due to the fact they never lose matches. Drop this basketball team as low as you can because they are not beating division one teams any time soon.
2. Salem (14-4). Slepian has carried this team on his back, but I don't think he'll take them past the quarterfinals.
3. Manchester Central (13-5). With Lafond back from his track stardom, he could take this team to Durham if all the pieces fall right.

Can't argue with anything you say. We could have 20 people enter, and everyone have a different sheet, and all of them having valid points. That shows you how scary this tourny is going to be. The one certainty I have is that Trinity will not lose in the 1st round. That's all I can say for sure.

Re: First Annual GNG Prediction/ Guess division one final standings Contest.
1 Trinity: Sure to finish number 1, but I want to see them play Salem.
2 Merrimack: No Floras but still winning.
3 Nashua North: Great team chemistry and peaking at the right time to make a run for it.
4 Salem: Tough team that wins by playing harder than their opponents.
5 Central: Solid team. One of two that already beat Trinity.
6 West : See Central.
7 Spaulding: Competitive team could finish higher.
8 Alvirne: Competitive team could finish higher.
9 Pinkerton: Fading fast against the tougher competition.
10 Bishop Guertin: Getting some wins now but still middle of the pack.
11 Memorial: Memorial for three!
12 Nashua South: Mediocre.
13 Exeter: Someone's got to lose.
14 Winnacunnet: Young team, promising future.
15 Dover: See Exeter.
16 Concord: Kaleb Marquis is an excellent player but can't do it alone.
17 Londonderry: Many close losses. Unfortunately losing can become a habit.
18 Keene: That's an awfully long drive to finish at the bottom.
19 Timberlane: Can't compete in D1. Do the players a favor and move down to D2.
2 Merrimack: No Floras but still winning.
3 Nashua North: Great team chemistry and peaking at the right time to make a run for it.
4 Salem: Tough team that wins by playing harder than their opponents.

Re: First Annual GNG Prediction/ Guess division one final standings Contest.
I don't know GNG, but is lunch with him a reward or punishment? After closely analyzing the schedule here's another set of predictions and lots of tiebreakers to sort though......
1. Trinity (16-2)- I don't see them losing another game...until tournament time.
2. Central (14-4)- Rolling the dice a bit here with them running the table too, but there tougher games are at home down the stretch.
3. Merrimack (13-5)- Still a quality team without Floras.
4. Salem (13-5) - Well coached, fun to watch and root for....with that said I don't see a big playoff push from them.
5. West (13-5) - I see West beating Salem in the the Double OT rematch....could they beat Trinity 3 times in the same season?
6. North (12-6) - I only saw them beat Londonderry without all their weapons in place...certainly an explosive team when running on all cylinders.
7. Spaulding (12-6) - A rematch with Central in round 2 based on my predictions....this time Central gets revenge.
8. Alvirne (12-6) - I like this team alot, but there recent play is a major concern. If they get it together down the stretch then Trinity better be aware in Round 2.
9. BG (12-6) - Schedule is favorable down the stretch, but I don't see them as a top tier team...they might score, but I worry about them caring enough at the other end of the floor.
10. Pinkerton (10- - They have talent to surprise some teams depending on the matchup, but a 1st round trip to Spaulding is not the one they're looking for.
11. South (9-9) - An appealing 1st round game vs. North...call that a coin flip
12. Memorial (8-10) - Only saw them in the QCIBT, mediocre team at best, but if the 3's are falling I guess they could spring a first round upset
13. Exeter (6-10) - Early season win over Winny earns them a match up with Salem instead of Merrimack.
14. Winny (6-10) - One of the underrated coaches in D1...gets the most out of what they have.
15. Londonderry (4-14) - Solid PG, but that's not enough.....they get to 4 wins based on schedule.
16. Dover (4-14) - I think they'd be 16 based on this 3 way tie....I hear others say they'll be good next year....I'd say better, but not a threat.
17. Keene (4-14) - Ironic a tiebreaker would come down to 16 seed for the two teams that don't play each other since they MUST schedule a D2 team.
18. Concord (2-16) - They may not want to travel to Trinity again anyways.
19. Timberlane (1-17) - Law of averages says they'll win a game....I'm not sure if they'll win a game....just thinking someone else will LOSE the game for them.
Also, a suggestion to your point system GNG....lowest point total "wins." If I pick Trinity to finish first and they end up 5th I get 4 points. BG 9th and they finish first then I get 8 points....lowest total is your winner.

Re: First Annual GNG Prediction/ Guess division one final standings Contest.
4 entries so far, all 4 different.
Free lunch, love the name. Stickin with my rules. You have to pick it exact. Whoever has the most right wins. It took me over an hour to try and figure out all the schedules and variables. The only common denominator is Trinity finishing 1st. That could be bad for Trinity.
Free lunch to answer your question. I have known people who after having lunch with me that have quit their jobs, got fired from their jobs, left their wives, have their wifes left them, and I had one guy who left the country. One thing I can promise, you will laugh, alot.
Don't worry though, I am winning this thing.
All entries must be in before Tuesday's games.

Re: First Annual GNG Prediction/ Guess division one final standings Contest.
Deadline is Tuesday tully. No exceptions. There are games Tuesday and the way this thing is shaking out you could have alot of movement in the standings in one day.
The winner will have a choice of Mexican, chinese, american fare, or pub grub. So it's Tortilla Flats, The Jade Dragon, 99, or Billy's.

Re: First Annual GNG Prediction/ Guess division one final standings Contest.
I like everyone that's put one in so far.
There are no wrong predictions this season, because up is down, inside is out. The lack of offense is bewildering. So many teams missing so many shots.
Another epidemic that is going thru division one. TURNOVERS. Very few teams taking care of the ball. One would think turnovers would lead to more points, but not this year.
It has been painful to watch some of these games. Painful with a capital P.

1. Trinity (16-2)- I don't see them losing another game either, and with that talent should not have lost a game
2. Merrimack (14-4)- Floras comes back to beat Central and get a top 4 seed.
3. Salem (13-5)- Tough and well coached team
4. North (13-5) - Tough schedule will lose two of them but best guard combo in the state
5. Spaulding (13-5) - Playing Well at the right time ( not sure how 3 way tie in this case will be broken since they all beat each other
6. Pinkerton (12-6) If they get healthy they will be dangerous
7. Alvirne (11-7) - Not much depth and just not athletic enough, but get tie breaker with Central and BG wins
8. Central (11-7) Just not that much basketball talent great athletes and coach but not enough B ball experience
9. BG (11-7) - Turning it on but losing Spark plug will hurt them come tourney time
10. Memorial (10-8 ) - Lots of talent best coach in the state
11. South (10-8 ) - Mucciloi finishes strong and earns player of the year honors
12. West (10-8 ) -Too much off court trouble to go deep
13. Winny (6-10) - They will give someone a game in the first round.
14. Londonderry (5-11) - Win over Exeter gets them jump jump started for a 4-1 finish
15. Exeter (5-11) - Too young to do any damage this year
16.Concord (4-14) - Wins over Timby and Keend gives them date with Trinity
17. Dover (3-13) - This team will win 10 games next year full of Jr this year but they need to learn to play together more
18. Keene (3-13) - Good thing this team does not get in, basketball in a mess in this Eastern Vermont city
19. Timberlane (0-18) - can you say relegation soccer style
2. Merrimack (14-4)- Floras comes back to beat Central and get a top 4 seed.
3. Salem (13-5)- Tough and well coached team
4. North (13-5) - Tough schedule will lose two of them but best guard combo in the state

And another thing...... It's disconcerting (in the rule book) to be with GNG at a basketball game.
It's disconcerting (in the rule book) to have lunch with GNG.
In the rule book disconcertion basically means........ being a pain in the a**

GNG I want to enter your little perdiction game, however, I want to get my husbands help in my picks. I will have them posted by Tuesday.
One question, if I win can I bring someone with me I am not sure I want to be alone with you.

Only thing I have to disagree with on your predictions goldenbear is pinkerton and west. Even with the off court issues West has a butt load of talent with their guard play and are on of the most athletic teams in the state. Pinkerton is good, don't get me wrong, but these guys have progressively gotten worse every year since their championship run with Zach Mathieu. If Patrikis can get healthy I do see them as a middle of the pack, tough first round game. Just my thoughts. I'm excited to see the outcome of the regular season so I can make my playoff predictions.
