Maybe it's because I wasn't the most talented athlete growing up.

Maybe it's because my son's weren't the most talented athletes growing up. { I blame my wife's polish genes for that}.

T@F is always riding me for talking about heart.

Last night watching TIM TEBOW go 95 yards real late in the 4th quarter reminded me why I love players with heart. They never quit. More often then not they find a way to win. I first started rooting for Tebow as a freshman back at Florida where I was fortunate enough to come away with a substantial amount of income due to weekly investments in the Florida football program. cheers

You could tell early on , this guy has it.

I have been amazed at what a polarizing figure he has become. No down the middle with this guy, people either love him ,or hate him.

People hate him for his religous beliefs, cuz he doesn't throw the perfect spiral. He can't do this, he can't do that. The talking heads on tv tell you why he won't succeed.

He plays the game with such an infectous attitude. He studies harder then Peyton Manning. Count me in the group that loves him. I have never seen a qb like this kid in my life. Doesn't do this, doesn't do that, all he does is beat you. Five starts this season, four wins. It is so much fun to watch a game and root for somebody you know is not a knucklehead. I love you

Rooting for heart over talent is so much fun. Empty when Teebow...

Post  boxout Fri Nov 18, 2011 10:25 am

beats a good team, let me know. The guy is not going to make it in the NFL. He is a horrible passer, maybe worse than his counterpart last night. Playing in the weak AFC West is a big part of this. The Jets are terribly overrated, the whole NY thing. He looked good on one drive last night, I admit. But, to think this guy is anything but a flash in the pan, is tiresome. It is funny, I have never seen people defend a player more than Teebow. When he plays a team like Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Green Bay, or even NE, give me a post. He can't throw and these teams can stop the run. The option doesn't work in the NFL. We all know that running QB's eventually get hurt.
Not too mention, every game Teebow plays there is a larger book on him. My thoughts are let his sit in the pocket and throw, and play contain D and you will beat him. Cam Newton came out like a ball of fire too, and he is slowing down.
Personally, I have no problems with Teebow's religious beliefs. It has more to do with his attitude of GOD gave me the power, not you attitude. GOD doesn't give two BLEEPS about a football game. Not too mention, a true GOD treats all people equal, not just success for Teebow and pity on all others.

Rooting for heart over talent is so much fun. Empty Mixed feelings

Post  bb603 Fri Nov 18, 2011 12:46 pm

On one hand I hate the mention of god every time the guy speaks. (Did god hate the Jets last night, probably) But it doesn't mean god favored the Broncos.

On the other hand I like to root for the underdog or the guy with heart.

While they may have not beaten "a good team" he has won more games this year then kyle orton did in 2+years being a "true" Qb. Of course Tebow's unconventional, and I agree he doesn't throw the ball well at all and is not a great QB, but he's a great football player. He finds ways to win, and really whether it's ugly or looks great all that matters is the win right? He works hard, can't ever see a scandal coming out of this kid, I don't get how people can dislike him so much, I'm a huge fan. I don't think Denver is the place for him though as I don't think they are trying to improve his problems throwing the ball because if he had that part of his game he'd be a very good QB in the NFL for a long time.

Post  GNG Sun Dec 18, 2011 7:58 am

If they lose today I don't think I am going to be as upset as I usually get after they lose. Evil or Very Mad

I think it will be a VERY high scoring affair. Pats can score on anybody, BUT anybody can score on the PATS. cheers

I wish the game started at one.

Rooting for heart over talent is so much fun. Empty Heart and Skill/Natural Talent

Post  clippafan23 Tue Dec 20, 2011 2:17 am

I have often felt that some people like to pull for the underdog, inspirational player over the guy with more strait skill. Many people do that. You see it with movies like Rudy and Hoosiers. Small player, small team. Some high school players in the past few years may have even cashed in on that with awards and fan support.

One of the presents my kids got me is The Tebow book. I love it. Very Happy

What a quick read. Hundred pages done in a flash. Interesting note, he transferred out of his hs after freshman year because the coach didn't want him playing qb. See it happens everywhere. Very Happy

While you're reading everything you need to know about Tim Tebow I'll be reading where to take my taste senses to in Boston for the next year. Wink

A little late to the conversation, but who cares. Personally, not a huge Tebow fan. The last two games haven't exactly helped his image as a great QB but I think a few of the games he won had more to do with teams playing stupid defense (and Matt Prater's impressive leg). BUT, guy is a great athlete, hard worker, and if he can manage to hang around the league for a few years my opinion may change, but I tend to agree that he won't last in the NFL running the option.
Speaking of bad defenses, how are the Patriots the #1 seed in the AFC? My answer is not Tom Brady (not a huge fan of him either, but he does win games for the Patriots, and THAT I am a fan of), but Bill Belichick. The guy's one of the greatest coaches all time, and he's paired with Robert Kraft, who in my opinion is one of the best all around guys out there. Hope everyone had a nice Christmas (I refuse to be politically correct, my apologies).

Rooting for heart over talent is so much fun. Empty Heart over talent...

Post  boxout Mon Jan 02, 2012 12:16 pm

Seems to me God has taken the last three weeks off for Tebow. I see no heart in his game at all. In some ways he looks like a puppet out there. 60 passing? One INT, and a fumble. This guy fumbles way to much to be a starting NFL QB for a long period of time. I am also starting to think that he would not be a good RB either. Teebow can't hold onto the ball. Never has a player done so little and received so many accolades. I believe that book is titled Through My Eyes, well right now everything this guy does is foggy. He doesn't see a football field, and you could tell that some of his teammates are starting to see that the 8 week ride is over. Losing three straight and having to back into the playoffs is not a great thing. Here is a prediction, Tim Teebow will get his last start as a Denver Bronco QB next week, and next season he will be on the pine, backing up whomever. This all had nothing to do with heart, as E.I.R. stated it had to do with great play from other players on his team.
E.I.R I respect your Brady opinion, I don't think your answer for him is PC, but he will be a first ballot Hall-of-Famer, and will set records that will not be broken for years. I would be willing to bet that the reason why you don't like Brady is that you are not a Patriots fan. I would take Brady over any QB in football. That includes Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees.

Believe it or not, I am a Pats fan, and still not a Brady fan. He does things no other NFL QB gets away with (ie yelling at coaches and players after HIS mistakes) because he throws for massive amounts of yardage. He has changed the game, no doubt. Why do you think there are flags on the field every time he gets hit. The NFL is getting to the point where the QB should wear a tutu, it's illegal to even THINK about hitting them it seems. Ask James Harrison of the Steelers, he gets fined 20K every time he comes near Brady. My problem with Brady is I rarely, IF EVER, see toughness from the guy. Not this "Oh he played through a hurt shoulder yesterday" garbage I heard on the radio on my way to work this morning, but real toughness. Guys like Favre had it (one of my favorite players all time but he should have retired in Green and Gold), and Pats QB Steve Grogan is an example as well. Guys who took hits and kept moving forward, not prima donnas like Brady who get knocked over incidentally after a play and start whining until they get the flag. And I would take Brady over Rodgers too, I'm not sold on how good HE is as opposed to how good guys like Jennings, Nelson, Finley, and Grant are. Brees and Brady are, statistically speaking, the #2 and #3 QB in football. The best QB in football then? Peyton Manning, hands down. My choice for the 2011-2012 NFL MVP too, just look at how lost the Colts were without him.

Rooting for heart over talent is so much fun. Empty Denver was 1-4 when he took the helm.

Post  GNG Mon Jan 02, 2012 5:10 pm

They are now 8-8 and champions of the AFC WEST.

More importantly they are in the dance. Jets, Chargers, and the Raiders nowhere to be found. Sure he has been scufflin the last few weeks, but it's not like Pittsburgh has been tearing it up the last month

The Steelers are 8 point favorites. I love a home dog.

Everyone keeps saying it, Pittsburgh is the most balanced team in the AFC...when they're healthy. But down Big Ben and Mendenhall, this is about the best chance the Broncos will have. I say it's a low scoring game but inexperience on Tebow's part and the mighty D of the Steelers eke out a win, 17-10. But it will be VERY close.

Other Predictions:

Texans over the Bengals - The Texans just barely get it done thanks to a monster game by Arian Foster and a strong game by the returning Andre Johnson, but don't expect them to make it past the Divisional Round.
Houston 24 Bengals 14

Saints defeat the Lions - In a high scoring affair, Drew Brees makes it clear he is a premier QB (again) as the Lions end a strong season losing to a very capable #3 seed. New Orleans 45 Detroit 38

Falcons Fly - Eli Manning succumbs to another multi-interception game, including one late in the game. Matty Ice comes out and marches the Falcons down the field for a game winning drive, and the Falcons head to Green Bay.
Atlanta 28 New York 24

My scores were a bit off but the picks were right. For a while the Saints-Lions game was a really good battle, and tomorrow should be interesting as well.

Rooting for heart over talent is so much fun. Empty Nicely done EIR, but remember

Post  GNG Sun Jan 08, 2012 9:38 am

don't be like T@F bragging about his predictions. Very Happy

Humble is the word for the forum members entering 2012 Very Happy .

Got me thinkin...

Humble rhymes with Bumble {the monster in RUDOLPH , my favorite christmas movie} rendeer

Humble also rhymes with stumble, and rumble { typical night at the jade}

Humble also rhymes with fumble. Who is the most humble athlete who plays a sport where there could be a fumble. TEBOW. cheers

so either Tebow is going to recover his own fumble and run it in for a score, or that Rothlisberger {remember that little incident he had with the young lady} Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad will fumble a couple of times and Denver's defense will take advantage.

It's like God is telling me to root hard {plus take the 8}, for the Broncos. cheers

ADDED BONUS IF DENVER WINS ---Pats would play Denver instead of steelers. GO BRONCOS cheers cheers

A Denver win would be nice, believe me, but I don't realistically see it happening. I think teams have started figuring Tebow out--shadow him with a LB and make him throw middle ranged balls and he becomes ineffective. All the same, go Broncos

Never have I been so happy to be wrong about a prediction. This bodes well for the Patriots.
Surprise of the day was the Atlanta Falcons. I thought they would win that game, and if not put up a good fight. I certainly did not expect a 24-2 embarrassment. So it seems that, with my .500 record this week, I will retire from predictions and instead, enjoy the Pats game.
