Lorenzo Charles Dies at 47

Just heard Lorenzo Charles died today in a bus crash. He was driving a tour bus in Raleigh, NC.

Absolutely one of the 5 greatest moments in college basketball history was when he caught Derek Whittenburg's 30 foot shot and dunked it at the buzzer to give NC State the huge upset victory over Phi Slamma Jamma in the 1983 title game. I still think back to that moment and how that Whittenburg shot stayed in the air forever until Charles grabbed it and put it home at the buzzer. It was stunning. Jim Valvano was probably the most stunned person of all on the court as he looked for anybody....SOMEBODY with red on to hug to confirm they had just won the title.
Some one posted online Jim Valvano would probably be the first person to hug Lorenzo Charles in Heaven.
Now, that would be totally cool.
