North v. Central, North Wins 5 - 0 Empty North v. Central, North Wins 5 - 0

The quarterfinal match-up between Central and North was very good. Mellin started for North and went the distance to secure a 5 - 0 win over Central. Central hit a few balls hard in the first inning, but Mellin was able to pitch his way out of it. North sent 5 batters to the plate in the 1st inning but did not plate a run. With Central held scoreless in the 2nd, North's middle and bottom of the order went to work enabling the Titans to score 3 times on hits by Cam Duval, Keon Jenkins, a bunt by Mike Muise and a pair of walks.

By the 3rd inning Mellin found his stride and cruised the rest of the way. According to the radar guns at the stadium he was consistently around 84 mph and ran a couple pitches up to 88.

I think the player of the game for North today, besides Mellin, was second baseman Mike Muise who made 5 or 6 putouts in the field, plus starting a 4-6-3 double play. Mike has also had a couple of key hits that contributed to the victory. Overall North played extremely well in the field and got the timely hitting needed.

Central played an excellent game as well. The starting pitcher did not have overpowering stuff, but he was around the plate and limited North to 3 runs through the 1st 5 innings. North plated two more runs in the 6th giving Mellin the insurance runs he needed to complete the game.

Pitching wise, North is in good shape as Turner, Root, and Mellin have a combined 37 innings left in the tournament. Timberlane is up next for North. They can clearly score runs based on 18 runs they have scored in two games. Their #1 pitcher has good off-speed stuff and can keep batters off-balance. Should be a good match-up.
