Final Timby 11. BG 5

Rough outing for the Cardinals. Lot of physical and mental errors. Give Timby credit for coming to play.

Timby. 11 runs on 9 hits and 3 errors.

BG 5 runs on 8 hits and 3 errors

I love how it was a feels like of 100 degrees yesterday and a feels like of 50 degrees at Holman today.

Holman Doubleheadero Empty End of the season for MMHS

Post  bb603 Thu Jun 02, 2011 8:30 pm

Salem 7 MMHS 2

MMHS scored a run in the first with a walk to Reynolds, a bunt attempt w/ the runner thown out at 2nd, a single by Mills, a ground out, and a RBI single by Sullivan. After 2 outs in the bottom of the inning a walk and a triple by Morin? evened the score.

The 1-1 score held through 3 then things went downhill for MMHS. The 4th inning started with a walk, then a hit to center got by the centerfielder and went under the fence keeping the runners at 2nd and 3rd. Next came 2 ground balls to 3rd and 2 runners thrown out at home. With 2 outs a grounder was then hit to third and went under the glove to allow 2 runs to score. A hit brought in another run and a ball blocked up the first base line by the catcher allowed another run. A dropped popup by the second baseman continued the inning. At this point Sullivan was replaced with Stevens. Sullivan: 3 2/3 4 K 2 BB 4 hits (1 earned run). Stevens was not as sharp as usual and a walk and a couple of hits brought in 2 more runs.

Zach Beckwith pitched the 5th and 6th and allowed no runs, 3 K. Memorial scored a run in the seventh on a walk, a bunt attempt that got the runner all the way to third and a hit. End of the season.

Bottom of 1st North is laying it on Trinity 11 to 0. Catalanato started for Trinity and was pulled for Giampetruzzi. North has taken out Turner for the 2nd inning.

BG could've survived one bad inning today (the 1st), but put a 2nd bad inning (the 5th) on top of that and it proved costly for the Cardinal 9.

For a team that scratches out hits and runs North did a lot of scratching against Trinity tonight. There was some talk in the Trinity camp as to who, what and why Trinity went with the pitcher they did against North, but to tell you the truth with the ropes North hit tonight, unless Chris Carpenter had some Pioneer HS eligibility left, I don't think it would've made a difference who Trinity sent to the mound tonight.

Yes believe it or not, that was the final. Turner pitched one inning. Root pitched two innings, then Lipkind and Jamerson. I am curious who we will throw against Central.

We scored 11 in the first, a couple of hits, a lot of walks and an error. Joe Breen hit a moonshot grand slam too. Trinity's biggest issue was pitching. They made plays in the field and hit well at times. One thing I didn't understand was why their coach tried to stretch a double into a triple. North executed a perfect relay to nail the runner. The next batter singled and that run would have scored. Instead North is able to get out of the inning.

Central should be a good matchup. North won the the regular season matchup 1-0 in a game that was played very well defensively.

Yea nyk, that was a head scratcher for Trinity in the top of the 1st. Their leadoff hitter hit the gaper off Turner to start the game. If he stays at 2nd the second batter hits a line shot single to CF. If Trinity goes up 1-0 or 2-0 in the top of the 1st North might feel some doubt, especially knowing there were so many upsets today. The leadoff hitter for Trinity gets thrown out at 3rd and it certainly seemed to take the wind out of the Pioneers' sail.

Central will be pressed to get the victory against North. From what I understand Central will be tossing their #3 pitcher against North on Saturday because of "things" at Central. With North playing at Holman, going against Central's #3 and the Titans having every pitcher ready to go against Central it would seem North has a Yellow Brick Road to travel to the semi finals.

Holman Doubleheadero Empty Sounds Like Memorial Put Up a Good Fight

Good summary of the Salem/Memorial game. Sounds like the one bad inning hurt Memorial's chances. Sounds like Sullivan was effective and perhaps a little help in that inning would have gotten him out of a jam.

Salem is a tough team, they've got some good bats and obviously some pitching depth as they were able to win games without Poore. I wonder Salem will be in the coming years due to the opening of Windham HS. I recall speaking to a Salem parent in the fall and he felt that there would be a drop-off.

Trinity scoring that run would have been big for the Pioneers, would have given them some confidence. Pitchers generally throw better when they have a lead. Turner was up in the zone a bit that first inning. I thought he would have pitched the 2nd just to give him some work since he didn't throw since last Thursday.

I am curious though about why Trinity didn't pitch their ace. He certainly did keep the North hitters off-balance on opening day.

Interesting situation at Central. Do you know how many innings Central's ace threw against South? I wonder if anyone has any details about that game. I think Central is better than their record indicates. They played great defense and their ace threw very well against us. I think we had 5 hits or less that game.

Holman Doubleheadero Empty Salem and Trinity

Post  bb603 Fri Jun 03, 2011 10:42 am

Salem is a good hitting team, their pitching was OK.

MMHS didn't do a lot of hitting this year, very streaky and tended to score all their runs in one or 2 innings each game. Same scenario yesterday. MMHS had a chance yesterday, if the play is made at 3rd for the final out in inning 4 it's 1 -1 after 4 complete innings. Not sure why Sullivan was pulled after 3-2/3, he was pitching well.

I'm very surprised at Trinity's starter yesterday. How do you not go with the # 1? Unless he was injured it's crazy to not start him.

Holman Doubleheadero Empty Central Game

Post  bb2013 Fri Jun 03, 2011 11:21 am

Nashua South vs Central game - North should win no problem. South made way too many errors. Two infield pop ups dropped, two flyballs misplayed, etc.. South had bases loaded I believe 3 times Left them hanging.. Nick Reed hit a double - should have been a homerun - it hit the flag pole on the fence and came back in. Super player and only a sophomore. After that, Nick Reed got up to bat twice - Central pitcher hit him both times..........Food for thought for Breen. South for some reason has a problem playing at home - 7 of their 10 wins were away.. South is another young team made up of mostly juniors and sophomores.....

Well, I don't know about "no problem" because all the teams are capable of having the one inning that creates trouble. I'm guessing the wind had a lot to do with the pop-ups being dropped. It tends to be windy at South anyway, but yesterday it was windy all over Nashua. The wind was affecting the infield pop-ups at Holman quite a bit.

North's game against Central a couple of weeks ago was a classic pitcher's duel coupled by terrific defense play by both teams. The only run of the game came on a sac-fly so I'm thinking that the same is possible again.

I hope the weather is more stable tomorrow.

You are right - any team can be beaten on any given day - thats why you play. The weather was windy yesterday but there are no excuses in baseball or any other sport. Teams have to play error free ball and South did not. The balls should have been caught..... Good luck North - the only other team I see maybe giving them some competition is Concord if they can play error free. They are a good hitting team.....

I never saw the fascination with South. They were playing above their skills (a credit to their coach), when I saw them (2x's) they never impressed me. Just one man's observation. I thought BG was much better than South to be honest.

The only time I saw them they were making all kinds of plays in the field, and it was a 1-0 game. Plus they were on a roll at the end. I thought they were going to give North a run for their money. I also thought BG was going to the semi's, so what do I know.
