Current PSU head coach Damien Strahorn has returned to his alma mater, Colby, as head coach starting June1. For the second straight summer the PSU program is without someone at the helm.

Maybe, the people who make the decision for the head coach at PSC will choose a home grown guy this time who will stay there a bit and cultivate the program. They had a chance last year to choose a couple of in-state candidates and passed on them. The press releases were pretty sparkling for Strahorn after he was hired last year. People were talking about how he would help the program with his resume. Now, all that seems pretty hollow.

Memo to the PSC basketball decision makers:

You've learned your lesson. Try to take a passionate NH guy to lead the PSC basketball program..... If they apply.

PSU plays in a very tough conference at this point in time. RIC has gone to the Sweet 16 two consecutive years & was ranked at #21 in the final Top 25 poll.. Western Conn was in the Top 25 most of the season and advanced to the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament. Keene St & Eastern Conn both made the ECAC New England tournament.

In 8 games, PSU did not have a single win last year against these fours teams. These teams are recruiting much better talent than PSU and are already well positioned to remain atop the conference. As for PSU, they graduated Ryan Lambert, Tom Dowd, Ian Dempsey, Matt Feehan & Bill Stowell. They accounted for 49ppg on a team that averaged just under 72 as well as 69% of their rebounds (562 of 814). Even with the numbers they put up, PSU was 11-14 on the season and only 5-9 in the Little East Conference.

I am not sure about any recruits that have committed to PSU, but they only return 2 non-guards – Jesse Sabolis (14.8mpg, 4.8ppg, 1.6 rpg) & Kevin Cressey(7.8 mpg, 1.7 ppg, 1.7rpg).

They really needed to have a very productive summer, this will be hard to achieve if they wait until August again to select a new coach.

It is my understanding that PSU has also changed this from a FT position to a PT position.

Yes, it is defined as a part-time job.

mens basketball

womens volleyball

http://ncaamarket.ncaa.org/jobs/4270818/head-coach-women-s-volleyball

apparently the womens hockey job was listed as a part-tme one as well.

this is from USCHO Fan Forum (http://board.uscho.com/showthread.php?95497-Coaching-Changes-2011-Offseason-Edition&daysprune=-1#post5093498)

"Re: Coaching Changes - 2011 Offseason Edition
According to a friend who inquired about the position, Plymouth is paying 9k-15k depending on experience, and is not willing to help employ the person in another capacity at the University.

Kind of a sad indictment of the schools desire (or lack thereof) to build a successful program.

The part time position wouldn't be ideal in any situation, but would at least be understandable and workable if they were willing to help a qualified coach make the job full time with other responsibilities on campus. Short of that it's going to be next to impossible to get anyone other than someone local or someone who has just graduated college."

Seems as though PSU does not believe being a head coach is a job worthy of being called full time. If the mens basketball job is being looked at like the womens hockey was, you have to feel for the kids currently at PSU. It is going to be very difficult to recruit any kind of top talent to go there when everyone taking the job would be looking at it a stepping stone. (other than those kids who are going to attend because of the relative low cost - $18,746 NH Resident, $26,916 -Non-Resident)

PSU hoops fans better get used to winning just 4 or 5 games in conference and thinking that a .500 season is going to be a virtual miracle.
