BG is leading Memorial in the 5th inning 6 - 1. With BG leading 3 - 1 Joe McCarthy hit a 3 run bomb.

One bad inning can spoil your entire night!

Perhaps lost in the joy of the 3run bomb is Joe pitched a pretty good game too. Other than a misjudged line drive in the 1st inning - I don't think Memorial got much going offensively until Joe tired in the 5th and couldn't command the strike zone any more. Kudos to Pat Clapp for coming into a sticky situation - bases loaded 1 out in a 6-3 game and allowing only 1 more run. Then when Pat ran into more trouble in the 7th, Cody Gilchrist came into slam the door. Offensively after being baffled for 2 innings by the offspeed stuff of the Memorial starter, the boys put together a couple of timely hits finally. Cody got BG on the board in the 3rd with an opposite field triple that reached the wall on a couple of bounces with runners on 2nd/3rd. He then scored on Nate Chartrand's rope to LF. Joe's poke was a laser to LF - probably in the 330-350 range over the retired numbers/name list on the wall. Jimmy Kelly had a good night too with a bunt single in the 1st to make it 1st/3rd with no outs and then a solid hit to LCF in the 3rd. Even his flyout later in the game was a solid poke, just got too much lift.

And most of all - it was a LOT warmer - didn't leave the park shivering or have to wear 6 layers of clothes!
