Class L Girls Tournament Empty Class L Girls Tournament

Just about into the Quarters on the Girls side. No report on NHIAA of the Londonderry/Merrimack game so I'm assuming it hasn't been played (I think T&F mentioned this in another post).

One upset so far that being the Central girls losing to Dover, but I think both sides knew Dover was going to come out swinging on a hot streak.

Next up for the favorite Winny is BG. Quarterfinal games are scheduled for this Thursday evening at 7pm for most games.

Yes, Londonderry is hosting Merrimack tonight at 7 pm. It's odd that 7 of the 8 games were played last night, except for the Merry at Londy game.

I'll give it some more thought, but on initial inspection I would favor and go with all the higher seeds in the quarterfinals. I'll wait and see what happens in the Londonderry game tonight.

In the girl's JV Tournament final Winny beat Memorial by 3 in OT. Winny banked in a shot near the end of OT to win it. Memorial was the 6th seed and Winny was the #1 seed and finished the year at 21 - 0. Memorial's jv team defeated the #3 seed Central and the #2 seed Londonderry in advancing to the championship game against Winny. Both jv teams will fortify 2 teams that will probably be in the top 5 next year in Class L along with Trinity, BG, Londonderry and maybe Exeter.

Pinkerton 63 Memorial 39

M- 10 4 13 12
Pin- 20 21 14 8

Pinkerton had a fast start. Guidi, Reid, Harris and Kimball all hit 3s in the first period. You could tell Pinkerton was not going to have a slow start like they did in their "scare" game against #15 Salem on Monday. Memorial actually played a fine first quarter, but with Pinkerton hitting nothing but net on their 3s the Crusaders found themselves down 20 - 10 at the end of 1. Pinkerton continued their hot shooting in the 2nd frame as AJ Guidi looked good knocking down some more 3s. Harris and Reid were hitting some medium range jumpers. The Astros clamped down on Ashley Gendron and didn't allow her any space on offense to operate. Memorial was down at half 41 - 14. Pinkerton hit 9 threes in the first half. Memorial made a nice little run in the 3rd period to cut the lead to 18, but Pinkerton answered back with some more torrid shooting from 2 and 3 land and pushed the lead to 28 at the end of 3. The 4th quarter was sub city. Sophomore Amra Elezovic had a nice game for Memorial with 15 points. Junior Ashley Gendron was held to 2 points by a strong suffocating Astro defense. AJ Guidi was the game's high scorer with 19 points and 5 threes. Junior Danielle Kimball had 14 points including 4 threes.

AJ Guidi is certainly a strong POY candidate in girl's L. She has an nice mechanic on her outside shot and plays very good defense. She is the straw that stirs the Lady Astro's drink. Pinkerton hit 12 threes. Memorial could only muster 1 three by Elezovic. Memorial actually outscored Pinkerton heavily from the line shooting 14 - 20. Pinkerton was 3-3 from the line. With the way Pinkerton was shooting the ball they didn't need to drive to the hoop and draw fouls from the Crusaders. When you shoot about 60% from 3 point land there's no need to go in the paint. Jack Ford used to say to win the state tournament you win an ugly game, a pretty game and a nuts and bolts game. Pinkerton had an ugly victory over Salem. Tonight they had a pretty win over Memorial. I guess they are due for a nuts and bolts game versus Londonderry next Tuesday. If they get by Londonderry they will be a very formidable opponent for the Winny - Keene winner.

The top seeds advanced tonight. Winny blew out BG. Keene had a tight 6 point victory over Dover and Londonderry beat North by 21. Next Tuesday at SNHU #2 Pinkerton will play #3 Londonderry at 6:00 pm. #1 Winny will play #5 Keene in the 8:00 pm game.

Pinkerton 60 Londonderry 39

Pinkerton was in control of this game the whole way. They didn't shoot lights out like they did against Memorial last Thursday when they were 13 - 16 from the 3 point territoty, but they shot the ball well enough to blow out a decent Londonderry team. AJ Guidi had her usual solid game, but kudos go out to 5'6 senior Laura Pierce. she is the glue that bonds the Astros together. She is one tough cookie that handles the ball, scores, rebounds and sets court rumbling picks that free up back door cut baskets and Guidi for her 3s.

Winny 62 Keene 34

I left with 6 minutes to go in the game and Winny was up 50 - 20. Keene kept pace in the first half as Cammie Warner showed why she's a D1 player. She hit a couple of 3s and had some nice post moves to keep Keene close at the end of the 1st only being down 14 - 11. Neither team seemed in synch in the 2nd period as Winny looked rather ordinary. The loss of Mahoney showed in the 2nd as Winny almost became stagnant on offense and took a 23 - 14 lead into halftime. Keene hit a 3 to start the 2nd half. Winny answered back with a 3 to make it 26 to 17. For the next 6 minutes Winny was Winny. Their full court pressure forced the Blackbirds into numerous turnovers. Winny executed on offense like they can. Ruffin looked like she really enjoyed extending their lead to 45 to 20 at the end of the 3rd. Siegart and Corcoran banged the boards and finished down low. Caroline Larosa hit some nice shots and made some nice plays also for the Warriors. In a blink of an eye the game went from being competitive to being a blow out. One Class L coach told me that when Winny gets you playing their game then it's over. He said Winny forces you into doing something you aren't capable of doing and some times teams don't even know it until it's too late.

Tiffany Ruffin showed why she is the player of the year last night.
Not only did she score 26 point in three qtrs, but did so with apretty bad stomach flu.
If you were at the game, any time she came out, she went right to the trash barrel to throw up.
After coming out of the game with about 6 minutes left, one quick stop at the barrel again and then finally someone brought her to the locker room.
Winny will have at tough game with pinkerton .

Winny looked ordinary in the 1st half, but extraordinary in the 2nd half. Pinkerton will provide a competitive championship game. When these 2 teams met in the regular season Winny had a comfortable lead at half, but the Astros mounted a furious comeback that fell short in losing 53 - 47. I think Pinkerton will try to impose their physical will on Winny, while Winny will try to out quick and beat Pinky with speed.
