Crown a State Champion?
Interesting read from the Union Leader today. Coach Rosinski talks about the idea of having Division champions play each other for a State Champion.
UL- State Champ
I think it would certainly bring attention to the lower divisions. . . I would love to see lower division teams be able to prove they are the best team in the state.

Re: Crown a State Champion?
There has been talk about this for a Looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooonngggg time. The key word in the previous sentence is................... TALK.
I'm so sure it won't happen, but if it does, I will pay for all expense 7 day trip to Aruba for Coach Jeff and Bosco from Timberlane or as NHSP puts it:
"social media giant that is Timberlane basketball"

I agree with T&F, but I won't go halvies with him on his offer ;-) - don't have that kind of money to throw away on a decision making body that doesn't always make logical choices...
There's really never a winner in an all division type tournament... If the D1 team doesn't come away winning, then the question is asked why is X team in a lower division? Were they dogging it just to get a championship?
As much as people complained about Pembroke (and why Londonderry plays Merrimack twice, IIRC) - at least the coach had the "basketballs" to know his team would dominate in D2, so push the good team to D1 and see what happens. If a lower division team wants to see how'd they fare against D1, then there's a process for that. Play against the better competition all year long and prove yourself. FWIW: There's a similar argument in football... Also consider a D1 team/champion has probably had at least 10-15 games (including playoffs) against very tough competition - brutal battles some nights (especially if Moe is letting 'em play). The very strong lower division teams have tough games, but let's face it - there are many more nights of 30+ point blowouts. Fatigue and injuries play a part in what's left in the tank for one of those all division tourneys.

Re: Crown a State Champion?
One of the biggest reasons that this may never happen is the length of the season. Most High School athletes are not focused on only one sport, which is why NHIAA doesn't seem to allow for over lapping of seasons. How many football players do we see on the courts this year?
It's tough to fit in 18 regular season games now for most teams. Every year, it seems that Winter sports tryouts get pushed further and further back. Tryouts this year started exactly 10 days before the first regular season game for my son's school.
The D1 & D2 championship game is on March 19th this year. Even if we only added another week onto that schedule, you're still pushing Spring tryouts into April. This would be completely unfair to most student-athletes.
As much as I too would love to see Division championships, they're high school kids. Let them enjoy high school, and allow them to get involved in everything they can.
