Post  SeacoastDad on Tue Feb 17, 2015 3:04 pm

D-1 boys, step aside!  Looks like the marquee game of the night is in Girls D-3:  Newfound (16-0) at Gilford (17-0).  It's not too often that you see a battle of the unbeatens this late in the season.

Unbeaten teams going into tonight:

D-2 Portsmouth (10-0)
D-3 Pelham (14-0)

D-3 Gilford (17-0)
D-3 Newfound (16-0)
D-3 Conant (16-0)
D-4 Sunapee (16-0)

Winless teams going into tonight:
Boys:
D-1 Concord (0-12)
D-2 Kingswood (0-12)
D-3 Newfound (0-14)
D-4 Concord Christian (0-15)
Girls:
D-2 Plymouth (0-15)

Interesting is the one word I can use to describe the results so far tonight.

North beating BG 66 to 52..... Interesting.

Merrimack leading Central at the half and then going on to lose 60 to 43.... Interesting.

South beating Alvirne by 1...... Interesting.

Salem beating Pembroke 64 to 57..... Very interesting.

Spaulding beating Bedford by 29.... Extremely interesting. Too bad it's not Friday. Would love to buy the best asst coach in NH a couple of rounds to get his take on the painful event at the RCC for Bedford.

Concord girls beating Memorial girls 56 to 53...... Incredibly interesting.

Oh and here's the MOST INTERESTING thing that happened tonight. Trevon Maughn returned to Memorial's lineup and scored 22 points in their 83 to 60 victory over Concord. Memorial might be 7th in the standings, but if Maughn is back 100% for the rest of the season then with him, Kabongo, Preston, Gopp etc then sorry Londonderry, Central, Spaulding, Pinkerton, South etc etc etc.

Memorial now becomes the favorite to win the title...... IMHO.

Just a very very interesting night of basketball.

How did the Trinity girls make out with the resurgent Lady Astros of Pinkerton?

Wow, my phone is blowing up with the news of Trevon Maughn becoming eligible for Memorial. He came off the bench to score 22 against Concord tonight. I thought I was seeing or hearing things that weren't right. Trevon was asked if he was back 100% and he said he is back 300%.

Do you hear that noise? It's called SIZZLE. That's a noise that's been missing so far in this D1 season. Tighten up the laces a little tighter Forum members because this season just got a lot more interesting and just added a lot of:

SIZZLE

sunny cheers Basketball sunny

Regaining eligibility right before playoffs??? hmmm... seems they need an NFL style investigation Shocked Rolling Eyes Suspect

And bring that sizzle over to my driveway please - it's still frozen with snow banks so high I cannot see the cars coming around the corner ignoring the speed limit when I'm pulling out of my driveway (near miss yesterday on my way to a game).

NHIAA Roundup: Maughn returns to lead Memorial boys
Trevon Maughn scored a game-high 22 points in his first game of the season for the Manchester Memorial boys’ basketball team in its 83-60 home victory over Concord Tuesday night.

Maughn, a star for the Crusaders last season, was returning from what coach Jack Quirk termed a “suspension.”
Three other Crusaders had double-digit scoring outputs in a wire-to-wire victory. Kabongo Ngalakulondi had 15 points while Wade Gop and Nick Philibert tallied 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Matt Giroux and Jacob Szulc each had a team-high 15 points for Concord.
Memorial improved to 6-5 on the season while the Crimson Tide fell to 0-13.

Man I miss one game night of posting and I miss all the action. . .

Maughn is back, and all of a sudden the first 2/3rds of the season doesn't matter. They have to be a favorite to make the run to Durham this year. Pinkerton, Londonderry, Central and Spaulding are going to be looking over their shoulders hoping they don't match up in Memorial's bracket.
