Pembroke gets their Division I schedule/Matt Alosa to serve 2 game suspension

Post  HaleyNHsports on Thu Sep 11, 2014 12:27 pm

Been sitting on this one for a few days but Pembroke will be playing Division I basketball this winter in New Hampshire. Head coach Matt Alosa agreed to serve a two game suspension for off-season violations and the Spartans will not be playing three Division I schools...who refuse to play them.

Good for the kids. They get to play.

Tom 2:
I never wanted to see the kids be punished for what the adults in this matter did. The kids always were and have been the victims in this. Show me where I wanted them to sit out? I have and always wanted the accountability to be on the adults who created the problem. Clearly PA has admitted to some wrong doing and is looking to move on with the penalty in place.

Boys get to Play
Coach gets to Coach
Suspension for two games-Acknowledge wrong doings ????

All sports now placed on notice about wrong doing which is good

Personally I think the penalty is very light on games. Hope AD admits to infractions
No reason to discuss schools that do not want to play them. Respect that decision

Also thought it was fair they did not touch past championships like they do in college
Hope things go smoothly this year

Ok so lets sum this up. After all this "inside knowledge" and being so sure of himself, former falcon was actually correct about how many things?

The Timbas boy got his year back. (-1)

Alosa is still the coach at Pembroke. (-1)

Pembroke has a schedule in Div. 1. (-1)

He's happy the kids get to play, but not the Timbas boy I suppose.... (-1)

FF you are 4/4 at being incorrect. Yes, I know you are going to reply by saying "show me where I said that" but we all know your negative tone towards the situation. You are the same type of person who works with or for the NHIAA and just want to push their political weight and agenda on people. You sir are part of the good ol' boys. I'm sure you and corbin will discuss it and be appalled over a beer or 30.

on a side note.

The Coach serves a two game suspension for what? You know the NHIAA and the Div. 1 ADs are just doing that to save face. Pembroke won on ALL accounts and if they get nothing after bring up all these lies they would look worse than they already do. If they actually had any real truth and evidence Alosa would have been gone from Pembroke long ago. It would not have got to this point. Personally, I'm just happy to see all the students at Pembroke and other schools get compete against one another. That's what it's about. The schools that decide to not play Pembroke or any school for that matter are missing out.

I think it's a fair outcome. For the student athletes I'm assuming it's a relief... For Coach Alosa I'm sure he's happy to have it behind him (mostly). Sure he'll have to be very careful in the future, but

While the punishment may be considered light (1 week or 2/18 games instead of 2 weeks or 4/18 games) - the infraction severity is in the eye of the beholder in the grand scheme of things. Compare that to perhaps on the field/court behavior where coaches that get tossed from a game get a game suspension, plus have to take some online course... Coaches that talk to the press on the record with negative comments about officials have received a game suspension (Tojo after losing to Exeter in the state championship and Ron Auffant prior to a Winni road trip to Keene are two that come to mind). I'm sure we can all think of far worse things coaches say and do in the presence of their athletes.

For the schools that refuse to play - OK I've learned that's their choice. What happens come playoff time though when they are pitted against each other? Does the coach again refuse to play standing up for what he believes in spite of his players? How long is this "choice" allowed to continue remains to be seen. Will the same coaches always boycott a Matt Alosa coached team? Seems petty to read that way doesn't it?

If you want to Talley up the score against Falcon go ahead

If you believe everyone is against Pembroke or the coaches I feel bad

I am happy that they boys get to play and coaches get to coach that was the right decision
The Timbas boy gets to play and that is correct. Mistakes were made by the ruling body and interpretations of rules were incorrect

But please do not try to sell the fact that for the last five years plus the program was being run cleanly at most as they skirted and stretch the rules. I think the addition to Division One is a plus for the D1 and NH basketball, but rules were broken and to many want to ignore that.

Take your tallies but you should also admit that

with all due respect, seeing that you are fairly new as a poster I have to wonder how many of Falcons posts you have read , maybe go scroll through them and you might understand what posters are referring to in terms of negativity.
I am also wondering how it works say if one of the schools who refused to play pembroke end up in playoffs or championship games and Pembroke does as well. What will happen then?

If a coach was to make the playoffs and prefers to forfeit rather then play that would be the AD decision and I would respect it but consider it a very foolish decision

If a AD has a problem with a program because of past history they should have the right to not schedule them This is done frequently and we should not judge as who would truly know the correct reasons for decision

I have read most/all of Falcons post and feel some of his points are right on and disagree with others.
Timbas would be one example ( he should never have been put through that)....New to the Post Board but over fifty years old with four current/graduated high school athletes that played multiple sports in Nh and I have run several youth programs I think my resume matches many other members on the post board

My problem is with individuals that only argue one side never acknowledge key points that they might disagree with. Sounds like you point out all the referees decisions that go against your team and sit on your hands for the bad decision's that favor your team......

It seems this has worked out very appropriately. The players do not suffer, the coach gets dinged, the school administration gets embarrassed.

The real tragedy is that for all that has been said. Pembroke was offering a very serious basketball program, one where players did not feel the need to go prep but could stay and represent their community. Let's not forget Matt came back to his Alma mater, and restored pride

Matt is a very serious coach who makes his players better. He is not a promoter like many (all) AAU coaches who just blither on about how good there so and so is. He is not about lists or player rankings, he isn't out tweeting who's getting better individually or who's recruiting who. Pembroke, as much as we can hate, they are about winning a team sport. Something that gets lost in Jeremy's lists, in AAU basketball, and prep schools.

I hope he stays after this year. As much as we hate, NHIAA needs him.

The decision NOT to play Pembroke s strictly an administrative one. As far as I know, no coaches are "boycotting" Pembroke. It was not a coach's decision. I know two of the teams who are refusing to play, but I will not be the one to list them here. Anyway, it will be common knowledge soon. For one of those two school districts, it is strictly an administrative decision. The coach wants to play them, but his hands are obviously tied.

SOX04073

I don't know about Pembroke winning on all accounts here.

Suspension of coach, POY stripped of award, 2 Players sit out an entire season. Untold anguish and legal fees of PA players and parents. Championships seriously tainted. Player misses Twin State game. Quite honestly you must be joking if Pembroke here hasn't paid a price.

We actually don't even know what ALL the stipulations are for them getting a schedule

Try taking the high road once in a awhile. Your making it harder on Pembroke than it has to be

Yeah, I didn't say anything about Pembroke winning on all accounts. Former Falcon, in all his vast knowledge, was incorrect. That is who and what I was talking about. Pembroke has been getting attacked for being this elite basketball program when in any other state Pembroke and their coach would be celebrated. Until I moved here, I have never seen treatment of their own people like this. As for the high road....I usually take it but FF has been jabbing for months on this board. Just wanted to make sure it doesn't go unnoticed. Its funny to see people back peddle after they ran their mouths and made things SEEM true that are, in fact, not true.

Your words were (you can just read it above)

" Pembroke won on ALL accounts and if they get nothing after bring up all these lies they would look worse than they already do."

As much as I want to see Matt Alosa stay. If he leaves I won't miss the silliness of the entourage.

The state needs serious programs to compete with NEPSAC an alternative for going prep. Pembroke could be the flagship. The outside of reality people really hurt Pembroke. As I have stated Matt is a great coach, a non BS'ing, non tweeting, non publicizing just winning basketball games coach. The circus created by the NHIAA AND his people will drive him out.

Quickly going OT.... I understand Sox040713's frustration just as much as I get why FormerFalcon posts can be considered inflamatory. Time to let that go. Let's keep the game between the lines - it lasts far too short of a time for the players involved.

I don't think NHIAA can ever compete with NEPSAC or prep schools (or junior hockey) in general. It shouldn't be the goal. HS athletics for the most part is made up of players that won't ever get on a collegiate team. It's not the stated goal of HS athletics; whereas, NEPSAC schools will tout their athletics as being the stepping stone for "better" athletes to prove themselves against a higher level of competition. Although I also believe schools like that do prey on their athletes parents desire/feeling to see their child play collegiately. Every hoop roster needs players 9-15 or so... Be realistic in your athletes abilities and "place"...

Teams not wanting to play Pembroke

Post  sjsprague on Tue Sep 23, 2014 9:16 pm

Well, who are these programs, probably the three worst teams in Div I last year.

I guess if they meet Pembroke in the playoffs a forfeit is on.  (Should be - only fitting)
