D1 Boy's Prelim Games Empty D1 Boy's Prelim Games

Post  Tuesday and Friday Tue Mar 04, 2014 1:02 pm

I wanted to start a thread for discussion for pre, during and post thoughts on tonight's Prelim games.

Concord at Central: It should be over early. The girls' JV Tournament final between Bedford and Central will be played before this game. Go earlier and support some fine young Lady basketball players.

South at Exeter: A great 8/9 matchup. This game will be extremely close from start to finish. A true Pick-em game. Exeter has played better heading to the finish line winning their last 5 in a row. South has faltered losing 5 of their last 6 games. A healthy Holler makes all the difference for the Blue Hawks in the flow of their offense. Medley is a much better player when Holler is stirring the Exeter offensive drink. Just a great point guard matchup between Holler and Tavarez. Exeter pulls out a 1 or 2 point victory.

Salem at Londonderry - This game will be very close. Fascinating coaching matchup between mentor and mentee. I hate to pick against my boy Coach Rob, but there's been so much good Karma in the Lancer season so far, I just think it's going to continue. I do have to get a Salem basketball tee shirt from my perennial COY Coach Rob one of these years though, much to the chagrin of the Jel-Dog GNG and Jel-Cat Tulliver. I'm not going to say this a Pick-em game, but this will be a very big mental and physical obstacle for the Lancers to overcome and they will.

Memorial at BG - The first time these 2 teams played there wasn't much of a difference. That's when BG had Boykin. Unfortunately, he's not in the mix anymore. Memorial has stabilized since then, in their own Crusader type of a stabilization way. Gopp has worked his way into the lineup more. Maughn is the most fearless scorer in D1. He DOESN'T CARE what you throw at him. 20 feet, 24 feet or 28 feet..... He DOESN'T CARE. Usually, a team's attitude going into a game says a lot going into a game. I know BG will care a lot about this game. Memorial on the other hand...... Well, you have to understand something about them. If they lose tonight the majority of these players will put this game behind them by the time they board the bus in the BG parking lot. AAU season is just around the corner. It'll be a new basketball day for a lot of the Crusaders. In a way this is a very dangerous outlook for BG because Memorial will be playing with basketball house money tonight. Ehhh, if the Crusaders win tonight, then great they get another playoff game. If the Crusaders lose tonight..... no big deal because they check the calendar for the next AAU Tournament. Incredibly, this works in Memorial's favor tonight and gives them the victory.

Alvirne at Trinity - The game, if you're a hoop junkie, you least want to go to.

Pinkerton at Bedford - A pretty good matchup. Bedford has quite a few big bodies they can throw at Rosinski. The Astros must get more players involved on offense to upset the Bulldogs. Too many offensive possessions are spent for the Astros going Luke, Luke and more Luke. Pinkerton will need at least 3 players in double figures and a 4th with 8 or 9 points if they want to advance tonight. I can't see it happening. Bedford is playing great team ball. All the Bulldogs are realizing their roles at the most important time of the year. Their backcourt is playing well. Ryan Brown has been All State the 2nd half of the season.

West at Merrimack - The Blue Knights have given a good accounting of themselves over the last third of the season. They had a huge victory over South and have been jelling some as they head into the playoffs. Win or lose tonight they have a good springboard to venture into D2 next season.

Spaulding at Winny - This might as well be an 8/9 game as far as the matchup goes. It's a rivalry game. There's good guards on both teams. Winny has more players who can score consistently. Even though this hasn't been a typical Red Raider season so far, I have a hunch Spaulding can get 1 upset victory in the playoffs.

D1 Boy's Prelim Games Empty 3Buoys thoughts on Prelim Games

Post  Tuesday and Friday Tue Mar 04, 2014 1:16 pm

Tonights D1 Prelim's
Post  3buoyshoops Today at 11:09

Just trying to consolidate into 1 thread for Prelim games.

.

Throw the records out the window boy's.....everybody is 0 - 0 again...tournament time...WIN or your season is over!!!!!. I disagree with most that there will not be upset's tonight unless the "Home Court" God's are in the building's. With the exception of the top 3 seed's and the total parity in D1 this season 4 - 13 truly stand a fighter's chance this evening. it's who show's and who tuck's tail time, but one thing is for sure you will see young men battling for the right to play another day and that usually translates into better more exciting Basketball. GOOD LUCK to all you young men this evening and thank you for your efforts this season. It has been a pleasure...........................................................

CONCORD vs. MANCHESTER CENTRAL : CENTRAL will win this game, Doc's biggest worry should be keeping his player's healthy coming out of a game like this, It could get ugly quick and don't be surprised if Concord send's in the linebackers and linemen early in this one.......................................CENTRAL W.

NASHUA SOUTH vs. EXETER : Even game, Exeter a little more deep talent wise, with more options than very one dimensional South team that is good as a unit but not all that deep, remind me a little of the early Jordan Bull team's where he would put up 60 and still lose. If Exeter play's Defense and it's a big if they should pull it out at Home, 1st Home playoff game in 6 year's and South looking very mediocre lately.............................................................................................EXETER W.

SALEM vs. LONDONDERRY: Salem aint gonna roll over here.....Way to much history and pride in the program, Londonderry in for a battle and are going to need to convert the 3 ball. Really is not much seperating these two teams but 1 or 2 player's. Londonderry living large all season and have put together a good one, they have the 1 or 2 player's that Salem is missing and have been riding the momentum bus all season, they get bye here but not as easy as some would think...........LONDONDERRY W.

MEMORIAL vs. BISHOP GUERTIN: I have seen Memorial way more than I like to admit, One of the most perplexing teams in a very long time in NH, They dont care, They Dont pay a rat's behind to Quirk, They dont play much defense to the point were they are constantly standing around,They are lazy, They have had their full squad playing at the same time like 3 times all season, THEY, when all together and play a little defense are damn good!!!. Which "THEY" show's up tonight??. BG ? Living a holy existence this season? their good don't get me wrong from coach to stern they are solid but seem to be wearing down and falling into the parity pack like an anchor. Jesus go to Florida like all smart people this January and February?. Dangerous spot for BG, if "THEY" all show up tonight could be early exit for the Cardinal's, I hate to do it....MEMORIAL W.

ALVIRNE vs. TRINITY : Worst match up of the prelim's, Trinity will roll, Alvirne show's up once every 3 week's, They just dont have enough against this Keefe squad. TRINITY W.

PINKERTON vs. BEDFORD : BEDFORD bottom fed whole second half of season after having most difficult first half in D1. So that tells me they are right in the middle of the pack like the gazzilion other teams, good not great, but will play you hard and can beat yeh! Pinkerton healthy again and match up pretty well with very much alike Bedford. Good ole' fashion in the paint basketball game here. even match up.....................................................................................................I like the dog...........PINKERTON W.

MANCHESTER WEST vs. MERRIMACK : West will stick around and actually have been one of the few teams that has gotten better as the season has progressed. Merrimack has got it all going good currently and Goody has'm play'in as a unit all season, They are to good to be taken down by West but west will play hard....MERRIMACK W.

SPAULDING vs. WINNACUNNET : SPAULDING JUST HARD TO FIGURE OUT AS A TEAM. One thing that's not hard to figure out is that Cronin is top 5 in state. He single handily has gotten more out of less year in and year out than any coach I have had the pleasure of watching in my 20+ of watching NH Hoops. period!. Winny,Good not great, and they battle hard and should win this one at home. I just can't bet against Cronin anymore.................I'm broke.................................................SPAULDING W.

SEE YOU ON THE HARDWOOD!...........................Enjoy these boy's..................................................

As far as what game is THE GAME to attend tonight....... Well, I would drive a half hour to Lund Rd to sit at an empty court and listen to Migs and Jack talk basketball for 90 minutes.....

....... Throw in a Prelim Playoff game dripping with intensity, drama and the colorful situation of 2 colorful coaches coaching aforementioned description of playoff game...................

...........with only 20 feet of pure Catholic gym air separating them between their respective coaching boxes  bom  bom  bom  bom

I guess you know where I'm heading tonight  Wink
