Jan. 29th Games
Light schedule for tonight, but there are a couple of noteworthy games:
Bedford at Memorial: Since Bedford lost to Central 64 - 61 on Jan. 6th the they haven't scored more than 55 points. Memorial usually scores 55 points by mid-way to the end of the 3rd period of most of their games. It will be an interesting contrast not only in playing styles but coaching styles between the present Crusader coach and the one who he replaced. You never know who's going to play for Memorial. Wade Gopp played against BG last Friday. Really ?? Makes me wonder Hmmmmmm............ Well, it should be a nice game no matter who dons the Crusader uniforms tonight.
Keene at Londonderry: Even without the services of Coveney...... The Lancers should prevail.
Salem at Dover: A Seacoast grinder of a Pick em game.
West at Trinity: Ouch.
Exeter at Alvirne: 2 teams slipping and sliding as of late. Both teams need this game to get back into the Top 8 and getting a home prelim game.
BG at Timby: A Heavenly miracle will be needed for the Owls to break their historic streak tonight.

Bedford @ Memorial: When Memorial wants one, they usually get it. Memorial.
Keene @ Londonderry: Londonderry could do the September call up and get this one. Londonderry.
West @ Trinity: This won't be pretty. Trinity.
Exeter @ Alvirne: Hello Exeter? Anyone home? I think so. Exeter.
BG @ Timberlane: Timby gets the break of no Boykins. Is that enough?
Concord @ Central: Central starting to look like the 2007 Patriots. Central.
Salem @ Dover: This game is actually being played tomorrow. Gut check for Salem. Salem.

Re: Jan. 29th Games
If Bedford loses tonight to Memorial will T&F write an entry how they are the best 1 win team in NHIAA? They have played a tough schedule so far (BG,Central,Trinity,Merrimack,Winny). I don't understand the Nashua North loss though. The rest of the schedule with the exception of Londonderry,South and Pink is soft. I could see them pulling out a 9-9 record. Will he trade his Lancer Steed for a Bulldog?
The team I find perplexing is Exeter. In their 4 wins they average 76 points. In their 5 loses they average 51. Now their win total is skewed by a couple 80+ point nights against bad defenses, but a 25 point delta is crazy.
One of these two will be T&F's pick to be the team you don't want to see in March.

WEST vs. TRINITY : West playing better of late and competing, No match for Trinity, a good game for Keefe to work on thing's for what lie's ahead, He won't take West for granted but should be able to run multiple rotation's and set's................................................................................................................................TRINITY W.
EXETER vs. ALVIRNE : Exeter reeling and without Point and second leading scorer Holler again for this Game, Major drop when not on floor, no leadership to run the floor, against Pinky, looked thoroughly confused on both end's and got out of game plan forcing a lot, Medley still a no - show to this point and they need to get it together quick, Alvirne weak but tough at home and will battle Exeter hard, Toss - up Game with Point guard Holler out, and entire Exeter team out to lunch to this point. Exeter should win with or with out Point!......EXETER W.
BG vs. TIMBERLANE : Drink the "Happy Anniversary" Champagne before the game, Faithful will enjoy it better, Timby in a tough stretch.....could be awhile, BG good solid team, program and coach and playing well enough to win the tough one's.....this one not tough.....................................................................................BG W.

Trust me when I tell you that Bedford is really sick of hearing they are the best 1 win team in the state. It might have been a mental crutch for this team in mid-Jan, but now it's starting to become an albatross around their necks.

Re: Jan. 29th Games
I think T&F's Lancers will be fired up for this one after letting one get away from then vs keene last year. Boulay sat out the first quarter last year and the lancers went up 22-4 after the first quarter. Boulay played the rest of the game and keene came from behind and won. Lancers wont let this one get away, Lancers handle keene even without convney

Re: Jan. 29th Games
You know though -
The bulldogs don't give up - they stay in it.
They may be the most lethal team to get in the first round because they may be underestimated and perform a knock off.
If they can hang tough and keep playing - they may be the most interesting team out there.
Except of course, if you're T&F because of course Lancers

Re: Jan. 29th Games
Unfortunately, for Bedford, this game was the complete blueprint as to why they only have one victory so far this season. The Bulldogs had too many turnovers and bad decisions. They had chances to finish around the rim, but could not.

Well, I was waiting for your percentage pick on Bedford winning their prelim game or quarterfinal game and getting to the Final Four at UNH.

Re: Jan. 29th Games
Just before the National Anthem the Memorial principal announces:
"Please rise for the playing of our National Anthem and please remove your caps and hoods."
I've listened to thousands of National Anthems and have never heard a PA announcer say to remove your hoods. That was pretty cool and a by-product of our present society.
Bedford knew they had to score to keep up with Memorial tonight. Cam Meservey had a hot start by hitting three 3's in the opening minutes of the game. Bedford shot out to an early lead with the Meservey 3's and Brown and Stanton controlling the paint in the first. Maughn kept Memorial close with 8 points in the first.
In the 2nd period Kabongo made his presence felt. Maughn continued scoring and the frosh Preston hit a couple of 3's. Meservey cooled off along with the rest of his mates. The Crusaders outscored the Bulldogs 24 to 13 in the 2nd.
Memorial took control in the 3rd with Maughn once again blistering the 1 Crusader Way gym nets with 8 points. Ryan Brown, who had a great game, kept Bedford within striking distance by scoring 6 points. Bedford had too many turnovers which helped Memorial get a 10 point lead after 3.
Bedford put Memorial into bonus early in the 4th quarter. Memorial went to the line often in the last stanza. Bedford had to counter act by taking the ball to the rim. They did this with Brown and Stanton combining for 14 points. Meservey heated back up from the outside with a little help from Grande who hit a key 3 in their 4th quarter comeback.
It all came down to 6.9 seconds left in regulation and Bedford down by 3 at 71 to 68. They called TO and had the ball by the scorer's table at half court. Everybody in the gym knew Cam Meservey was going to get the ball....... Except for the 5 Memorial defenders. Bedford ran a baseline pick for Meservey to come free near the Bedford bench in the corner. He was WIDE OPEN when he received the ball. He knocked down the 3 to tie the game at 71 with 5 seconds left. Maughn had a 35 footer at the buzzer that hit iron.
Wade Gopp came up huge with 5 points in OT and a big block on a Meservey 3 attempt. Malo had a big 5 points in OT for Memorial. Bedford committed a couple of crucial turnovers and had one sequence where they had 3 shots in very close, but couldn't finish.
Memorial comes away with a big victory and Bedford suffers another tough OT loss.
Trevor Maughn can flat out shoot and score. He knows no boundary for his shot. If you D him up at 20 feet, he'll take a 22 footer. If you D him up at 24, he'll take a 26 footer and not think twice about it. He's got a great handle and finishes very strong when he takes it to the rack.
Ryan Brown was very impressive for Bedford. He scored 27 points with a lot of strong athletic drive finishes. He was a monster on the offensive boards. Meservey hit five 3's and finished with 23. Sam Stanton was strong in the paint and on the boards with 17 for the Bulldogs. Kabongo had a nice overall game with 19, but picked up an ill advised 5th foul on a charge when he went out of control on an offensive drive with 3;23 left in OT.
Memorial is definitely a team to be reckoned with. Maughn is one of the best scorers in the state. Kabongo can go inside and out. Malo gives them added athleticism in the paint and in the open court. You have to be ready to shoot and score against Memorial.
For Bedford they committed too many turnovers to win this game. They just made bad decisions with the ball at crucial times. They didn't finish when it came time for finishing in the paint. They also have a defending problem in their backcourt. Grande is too small and doesn't have the strengths to stay with a opponent who can score like Maughn. Meservey is big and strong, but doesn't have the quickness to defend a scoring guard. There's no defensive answers on the Bulldog bench either at the guard position. None of their Bigs are quick enough to defend any scoring guards. Now, you know in a nutshell why Bedford has only 1 win. They must improve in these areas if they want to turn their season around. It better happen quick because they have South on Friday. Who's going to defend Yordy on Friday for Bedford? Good question.
