Jan. 6th Games
Some nice matchups coming off the basketball cobwebs of the holidays, snow days and football days:
Bedford at Central: Most of us know Bedford is the best Zero for 2013 team in the state. Even if they lose this game I guess we'll be calling them the best Ohh-fer team, correct? This is a tough game to start 2014 for the Bulldogs. Central is playing at a high level coming off the QCIBT Ship. Bedford is still ironing out the wrinkles. Bedford's length and strength will pose some problems for Central. On the other side of the coin Central's defensive pressure will force Bedford into a decent amount of turnovers giving Central more chances to score and in the end more points than Bedford.
Alvirne at Merrimack: This should be a good battle, but I think the Broncos come up short in this one. I think one thing Mack found out in the QCIBT was confidence in the play and scoring of a few more players NOT NAMED GENDRON. This will be a good game for Mack to start building a foundation for the new year. As always, the Broncos are in constant search of a statement game to propel them from that usual 7th to 10th seeding area to the next level. This game would be a nice springboard to do that.
Memorial at Spaulding: 2 teams that are on a definite downslide this season. The loser slides deeper into a hole. The winner gets a little pick up to their basketball step.
Lond at Winny: This game is more important for Lond than it is for Winny. If the Lancers win this key game on the road then they can start building a resume to climb into the top 5 to 6 teams. If Lond loses then the Lancer doubters will come out and say I told you so. The Lancers are one of those teams talked about a lot and argued about a lot on where they will be in the D1 totem pole. Win or lose Winny is Winny. They run, they score and when they do this they can beat a lot of clubs. This is known in D1.
On the girl's side you have Winny at Lond. The Lady Lancers are definitely on a collision course with Bedford later in the season, but this is a game to start on Collision Road.

T & F, I agree with your Bedford/Central tilt tonight, Bedford will hang around for awhile but Central Should prevail, Bedford by far has the toughest first half of season schedule in D1. Realistically could go 2 - 7 thru first half and run the table after that giving them momentum and most importantly confidence heading into the tournament.
Alvirne vs. Merrimack : Alvirne a little unknown, good test for them this evening, tough environment, but i'm not sold on Merri saw some real concerning signs in QCBIT, But at home I give them the W.
Londonderry vs. Winny: Arguably the "game of the night", Winny tough at home, but which Winny team show's up, Big measuring stick for Londonderry going on the road into hostile environment against quality opponent this early in.Alot of hype and expectations for this team outta the gates. Contenders or Pretender's? I say it's to early to tell and call this game a toss up. Home court the difference Winny wins a Battle.........I will attend this one.
Nashua North vs. Salem : Interesting match up, Salem all way's tough at Home, coming off OT loss at Guertin, had a lot of time to practice, North a little unknown this early in.Salem Wins.
Memorial vs. Spaulding: Way more than Basketball plaguing Memorial over there, Spaulding Wins, more focused, disciplined and prepared................................
Dover vs. Concord : Concord, Just Better, Dover scary bad..........Concord W.
BG vs. West : BG, But not as big a blow out as everyone thinks, BG W.
Keene vs. Exeter, Keene has shown nothing, Looong miserable ride home, Exeter W.
Trinity vs. Timby, If there was gas shortage this game would be an F. Starting 5 can stay home. Trinity W.

Re: Jan. 6th Games
Mack over alvirne, good teams find a way to win
Salem over north, felix assigned to guard lates and gives him problems
Winny over londonderry, Richie Ruffin is much improved and will have his way against them
Timby over Trinity, Timby is gonna keep things rolling........
Mememorial over spaulding, kabongo is too much for them to handle
Bg over west, bg just better
Exeter over keene, gonna be a long year for keene as their best play boulay is likely out for the year with a broken arm

T& F, First Quarter Probably, Then Shoot up 101. Holmes Should be deep into bench half way thru the 1st, Londonderry/Winni should be better basketball.

Re: Jan. 6th Games
I kind of figured some games might be in peril of being played when the weathermen said there was a potential of a:
FLASH FREEZE
happening this evening.
It'll be interesting to see if any other games are cancelled, especially if the team bus rides are more than a half hour.
This season just can't seem to get kick started, especially when we're using words like:
Snow days, cancellations, postponements, peril and FLASH FREEZE. Sounds more of a description of your latest Imax disaster movie than your HS basketball season.

To be perfectly honest, if Flash Freeze makes an appearance tonight I think the only ones equipped to handling it are:

Re: Jan. 6th Games
Geez, some Jr High D-headers for this afternoon are being cancelled. I wonder if there will be a ripple effect for HS games tonight.
Are we officially in a Weather Fear stage for athletic events? Back in the day w/o internet and no up to the minute weather apps for iPhones I would argue a lot more games would've been played. Now, every little drop of snow and sheet of ice is magnified, through the powers of the internet and any weather event is classified as dangerous and fearful...... Just saying.
OK, here we go:Tonight's North at Salem boy's game is postponed to Jan. 15th.
Tonight's Timby at Trinity girl's game postponed to tomorrow night.

As of now.... 2:45 pm....... Memorial boys are planning to go down to play Spaulding tonight.
Makes sense. Even the bad guy Flash Freeze wouldn't want to venture into the tough town of Rochester. I think Justin would agree.

Wow, hot n heavy night:
Lond 66 Winny 64 - Lancers win it with a couple of FTs in the last 4 seconds. no more than 4 To 6 points separating the two teams the whole game.
Bedford and Central are tied at 39 at the end of the third.
