Here's an article in today's UL which talks about redistricting for Manchester. Tonight's meeting will lay the foundation for one of the most important things to confront Manchester for their schools and sports in years.

So West becomes the landing point for districts that want to tuition into Manchester?? Such as Hooksett? Or it becomes some sort of charter school? The really interesting part of this could be how the teacher's union reacts. Classes at Central and Memorial are about to get larger.

Gee how do all those Bedford parents feel now - all their tax dollars into their beautiful new school - if only they had waited for Manchester to close West so they could take it over (hahahaha). Laughing Laughing Laughing

Class sizes will not be larger if this happens. Because they laid off a hefty amount of teachers last year they consolidated class rooms and students. There are empty class rooms pocketed amongst the high schools. This is why there's 30 + in a lot of HS class rooms in Manchester. Laid off teachers + combining of class rooms = 30 + in a decent percentage of classes.

If West consolidates with Memorial and Central, I presume the West teachers will move over too. The empty class rooms will be filled again and maybe, they'll get under 30 for a lot of class rooms that they're over 30 now.

It seems recently with Manchester at least when it comes to saving money in the school budget it's best not to assume anything. I don't know how many teachers work at West, but would they just be assigned a position or do they have to apply for a position? What if there's less positions than applicants? Do teachers coming from West with more seniority displace teachers at Central/Memorial with less seniority. Seems to me that's one of those union things you read about where teachers with less service time get the pink slip in the Spring over teachers with seniority. This is just an interesting can-o-worms. Nothing to do with pro/con union by the way - it's "people" and jobs. Then you have administrators, administrative assistants, custodians, etc. who don't just disappear...

Leaving a building and it's facilities empty/unused is never a good idea, so the school district will be paying to maintain that building until someone takes it over. Gonna miss that dimly lit West gym and it's convex wall Very Happy... Ok, not really.

Bigger schools is not the answer, Manchester is already one of the worse system now it is just going to be worse.

Just divide the 3 schools equally make them all 1500-1700

can Central even hold 3000 students?

Central and Memorial would be at 90 - 95% capacity which is not a good idea.

I will disagree that Manchester is one of the worst districts, however, as I believe they accomplish some great things under very difficult times.

60 kids going to a school because the band is better, that is one of the huge problem with todays kids and parents, instead of trying to make their own Band better with hard work they jump ship to another band that is elite and one of the best in New England.
