Re: 2012 baseball
Unfortunately there are company's out there that will pull the end cap off and shave the barrel from the inside. They advertise on the internet and call it "Home run Derby modifications" They even sell all the latest shaved BBCORE bats. They also roll them to advance the aging. I think it is going to be easy to cheat if anyone wants to. I don't think you can catch anyone using those bats unless the sound gives it away. Evan then it would be difficult because they all sound different anyway.

Well we won't be able to complain about extra wins for Dover and Keene this year! Both lost yesterday to lower division foes, Keene on the short end of a 6-2 score vs. Con-Val and Dover a 10-0 loss to St Thomas.
Couple of close games in D1 with a few games having 1-run margins... Merrimack/Concord must have been a dandy - 10 innings.

The St. Thomas win over Dover was a no-hitter by St. Thomas' Jordan Bean (5 innings).

Re: 2012 baseball
We've got High School baseball on WTSN for the first time in.... well, I think EVER! Oyster River vs. Saint Thomas, we go on the air at 3:50 PM, first pitch is at 4PM.
You can listen online at wtsnam1270.com if you're stuck at work. I think i'll be going Vin Scully on this one, so send tweets to @Justin_McIsaac or e-mails to justin@wtsnam1270.com and interact with the broadcast!

Nice to have the season finally underway..... BG is off to a good start at 2 - 0. I have not seen or heard from my good friend GNG yet -- we hope to see him soon at Holman!!

Where has all the discussion gone?
Seems like it took a long time to read all the discussion on baseball last year, but this year there is very little to read. I know I'm out of the loop a little since my son has graduated.
Questions I have:
Thought that Beaudet was the # 1 for Trinity and Beckwith was the # 1 for Memorial, both pitched in game 2. Who started game 1 for each team?
Who started game 2 for North the other day? The Telegraph mentioned the reliever and never name the starter.
Concord seems to be hitting up a storm again this year. Are they an early favorite? Are they many strong teams in D1 or is there a lot of parity for 2012?

Re: 2012 baseball
Matt Lipkind started for North on Wednesday. Left at the end of 4 with 6-5 lead. Pitched solid, but some shakey defense resulted in 3 unearned and high pitch count. Both teams very sloppy with about 10 errors between them.

Looks like a lot of early-season parity in D1. 3 games into the season and only 3 teams remain undefeated.

Re: 2012 baseball
Two the currently undefeated teams play Monday (Memorial v. Concord). Memorial plays today vs. Spaulding too. North (the other undefeated team) has a tough week with Salem and Memorial, plus a non division vs. Andover. If they escape undefeated, they may be the team with a target on its back.
What surprises me is Merrimack at 0-3. I'm sure it hurt them a lot having to go 10 innings in game 1 vs. Concord (2-1 loss).
Timberlane must be getting some good pitching too - their 3-2 win yesterday vs. BG was a bottom 7 3-run HR from what the Telegraph says.

Re: 2012 baseball
Memorial remains undefeated after beating Spaulding 4 to 3 in 8 innings today. The game was 3 to 3 after 4 innings. Mike Torres pitched 4 innings and was replaced after walking the lead off batter in the 5th. MMHS then got 2 scoreless innngs from sophomore Warren Silver, 1 from # 99 (did not get his name), and Brandon Hammerstrom pitched a scoreless 8th. The leadoff MMHS batter reached when he was hit on the first pitch. He advanced to second on an out then to third on a passed ball. Spaulding then intentionally walked 2 batters to load the bases. Interesting they walked a batter that did not have a hit in the game and the reliever who would be making his first plate appearance of the day. Tyler Burke then hit a single to left to win the game.
First game I have been to this year, the new bats sound terrible on most contact that was made.

Re: 2012 baseball
North mercied Salem last night, 12-2, in 6 innings behind the dominating pitching of Jake Mellin. North has been wearing down opponents with timely hitting up and down the lineup and that was no different last night. If the defense remains sharp, they will be tough to beat.

Re: 2012 baseball
Was at the BG/Memorial JV game today when word filtered in from the Memorial side of the field... In the Varsity game over at Gill Stadium BG won 1-0 as Joe McCarthy pitched a perfect game. BG's lone run came in the first inning.
Congrats to big JoeMac - pretty cool stuff.
