Baranowski, Walczak Honored by America East
W. HARTFORD, Conn. -- Samantha Baranowski (Stanhope, N.J.) and Danielle Walczak (Lee, N.H.) have each been honored with post season accolades by the America East Conference. Baranowski has been named to the All-Conference Third Team while Walczak earns a spot on the league's All-Rookie squad, as announced by the conference at the annual post-season awards banquet on Thursday afternoon.
Baranowski leads the Black Bears in scoring (8.9) and rebounds (5.3) while she has had the highest field goal percentage in the league (48.8%) for the majority of the season. Baranowski ranked tenth in the conference in free throw shooting at 65.6% and seventh in blocks at 0.9. The senior forward averaged 11.2 points per game in league play and 6.5 rebounds, good for 12th overall in each category. Her 1.2 blocks per game in league action was good for third overall. Baranowski also had a six-game double-figure scoring streak in conference play and scored in double-figues in 10 of Maine's 16 league contests.
Walczak led Maine's rookie's in scoring at 5.6 points per game while also leading all Maine rookies in rebounding with 4.6 boards per game. Walczak picked up her game in league play, averaging 7.4 points and 5.5 rebounds against America East opponents. The freshman forward ranked 17th in the league in rebounding and 14th in offensive rebounding. Walczak ended the regular season as the second-highest rookie rebounder in the league. Her 7.4 points per game in league action was good for 30th overall while she finished tied for 15th in conference only rebounding at 5.5 per game. On the defensive end, Walczak ranked 12th in conference only games in blocks (0.6).
